Pop-up camper vs Full built

Postby leblanda » Thu Jun 25, 2020 10:44 am

Hi,

I just found an old Po-up camper in the classified.
he is asking 350$ for the unit without the refrigerator.
I would offer him 250$

Does pop-up camper frame are good for utility trailer/teardrop trailer?
I planned to use it at:
50% as utility trailer for bulk soil/rock transportation and other house hold usage.
25% as snowmobile trailer
25% as removable teardrop pod with rcplane in.
How to test/know that the torsion axle is still good?
For a custom built as of now I'm at 940$

thanks

i've used a 30 year old Jayco pop-up as the basis for my two most recent projects (see my avatar). The basic frames are very sturdy and easy to modify for whatever purpose. I bought a new Dexter torsion axle for about $350 shipped and simply sanded and painted the frame. A torsion axle should be replaced if it is more than 20 years old. Also there is a lot of stuff you can salvage from the camper shell. At that price you would probably have a good deal.
