Toe angle on Torflex axle

Postby bartek » Sun Dec 13, 2020 7:21 pm

I finally got my #9 Torflex axle from Dexter, and spent the weekend installing it on my half-built tear drop (it's built on norther tools 5x10 trailer, I I had it siting on jacks until this point).
Once I got it installed, I noticed however that both wheels angle outwards from the center axis (toe-out) quite a bit (so much so, that I was able to notice it by just looking at it).
Quick measurement confirmed my observation as well.

I'm guessing this is not expected? Is there a way to adjust the axle somehow?

I also see there is some amount of positive camber, that might be because the trailer is not finished, so probably lighter than it will be (and definitely lighter than 2000lb the axle is rated for).

I have to ask a dumb question.....

Is it installed right side up?
Are there marks for orientation?

Trailer axles would normally toe in some,
until loaded down.

Yeah no, only one way to install it, pretty sure about that. It has an angle bracket which would make it pretty much impossible to do it any other way

I agree.

You might contact Dexter about it. I wish I had an answer for you.

I contacted Dexter, apparently this is to be expected before the axle is towed - looks like you need to cycle the axle for the rubber inside to settle and take final form... It's going to be a while before I can take the trailer out, I'll report back whether this resolved the issue.
