Drop down axles

Postby Micro469 » Thu Apr 06, 2006 3:28 pm

Hey, has anyone here used drop down axles, or considered using them?
Anyone got any reasons for or against?
The guy who built my trailer screwed up and made the axle too short. I need about another 2" on each side. I can go and spend another $300.00 for a dexter axle, or get this one reworked. The problem is, if I keep the straight axle, the trailer sits about 19" high, and I want it lower...around 15". I can get the axle reworked to a drop axle for about $85.00.
(Also, I think they look kinda cool..Retro). Sure would like some positive feedback... either for or against........

Drop down axels

Postby rooster » Thu Apr 06, 2006 8:16 pm

John, I think you would be wise to drop it down now and not have the headaches later. My axel is stright and frame is 19" off the ground also. My Atwood levelers don't touch the ground and I have to modify them. I wished I'd dropped it 4".

Jim, :x

John, here a pick of mine. Also 4", by design of the axle, it also adds a little spring to it.

Have a good day.
