Lil Diner stuff

Postby mikeschn » Sat Dec 04, 2004 2:14 pm

Okay guys,

It's time to concentrate on the Lil Diner. I have to get some hardware soon...

Here's my first dilemma. I could buy the door handle from Grant, which is standard teardrop hardware. But the problem is, when I used those standard handles on the tiny benroy, from time to time they got jammed and only opened from the inside. The work around was to unlock the other door, and then unlock the jammed door from the inside.

On the Baja Benroy I opted to use a really expensive Anderson door handle, and it worked out well. I won't get locked out of that one, near as I can tell.

On the Lil Diner, I'm only going to have 1 door. I can't afford to have it lock me out when I'm on the road. The only way in at that point would be to take off the big window on the other side and crawl in...

So here's the question: What door handle can I buy that won't lock me out of the Lil Diner?

Mike...

P.S. Remember, the Lil Diner has the inside seals like Steve's Stripped Teardrop.

P.P.S. Hmmmm we need an updated photo of the Lil Diner progress... Steve, feel like running out to your woodshop and grabbing a photo?

Mike,

I got the door handles from Grant as well. Is it possible that it could be an isolated issue with the one that you have, or do you think it is a problem with the particular handles themselves? Just wondering if I am going to run into the same issue. That would be a real bummer to get stuck with no way to get into the tear!

Mike ,
I'll see what's available through one of my larger glazing suppliers (CRL) when I get a chance.

Becuase of the inside seal, I have to move the door handle way inside the edge of the door. That kinda rules out any storm door handles. But maybe someone here has another idea??? Here's what the design looks like...

Mike...

P.S. Steve must still be out in the shop... looking forward to hearing what he has to say... (still hoping for some progress photos too!) :pictures:

Just got in! I finished up my window side framing. I'm using the windows fromTJ Trailers. I got two 24" wide units...I hope that I don't feel too clostrophobic!
Tomorrow..getting things set to start laminating the sides...After the sides are done, I'll be focusing only on Mike's "diner, as I'll be out of money...til after christmas. My father-in-law is very generous, and gives me money..so...

Your framing is looking good Steve... 2 24" windows... ??? the framing looks more like 36". So what am I missing?

Mike...

P.S. You know, the galley hasn't even been designed yet... I could sure use some ideas for the galley.

So far I have:
a compact fridge
a microwave from the last trailer that I could use, but don't have to.
I want to get a drop in stove like Larry S. has in his outback.

Beyond that I'm open to suggestions... anyone?

What's a Lil' Diner with out an oven to bake those sticky buns as you call 'em?

(A Flamineta would take care of that) IMHO

Oops! That pic is your frame! Mike.
I too am wondering about my galley. Those flaminetta's look really cool!
I'm also pondering whether to include the ice-chest and a water tank in the mix...maybe the water under the frame? The ice chest takes up so much room..maybe kept in the car?
Ideas??

Okay we need a really knock out, sensational galley. For that I think we need everyone's help here... Ideas gladly accepted. Anyone have any ideas?

They run off of both; 110 and 12/24volt. (12 or 24 volt when 110 not available)
They are also a combination fridge/freezer.
My brother-in-law works for Kenworth and he tells me that a lot of truckers carry them along with them.
They look like an ice chest that has an enclosed compressor at one end.
I'll try to get the pics for you.

Thanks for the link Bill...

That's an expensive little unit... I think I'll try to package around my $50 fridge...

Mike...

P.S. I still have to package my propane bottle too. I don't want to put it on the tongue. Do you think I can slide it into the closet, with the fender in the way? That would be under the a/c
