It's going thru a redesign stage once again. Carla is wanting the front yard landscaped and the rest of the siding put up on our farm house.

Hope she does not read this..... ....I plan on "raising" the money for the new tear by taking on a few side jobs. Like I don't work enough as it is  , but ya do what ya gotta do.

Right now, I am redesigning the galley area, where the battery box is, and trying to squeeze out as much space as I can. Also adding a roof vent.

Mike's fenders came today. I snapped a few pics. It's dark out, and the frame is buried in snow. Once I dig it out, Ill test fit the fenders to the frame to get a placement for the blocking to be placed in the wall build-up.

I really like those fenders, I'll probably end up getting a pair eventually. How wide are the fenders? Do you space them off the body or are they mounted right up against the body?

I bought some wheels but I still haven't ordered my axle. The wheels I got are 14X6 with a 175/75-14 tire. My tear has 62in outside width, the tire spacing to body 2.25in, and 3.75 wheel offset. I'm figuring that I'll need a 74in width face to face. The tire should be 6.89in wide, including the 2.25 space from the body, I was wondering how far the wheel will stick out/in. from the fender lip.

One more question, Do I really need that much space from the body to the tire? I was just guessing.

Duh? :? maybe I should have looked at Grant's webpage.

One more question, (in addition to the others) Lil'Bear calls those "Mod/Cub" fenders. While the "Modernaire, Modernistic" fenders on Teardrop fix it Shop page are different. There are similar fenders but they are called "Ken Skill Reproduction" fenders. Which is the more period correct choice?

Ok!! Here's a question!!
How should the fenders sit over the tires??
I set up the wall to get a feel for how things will look. And to determine if the axle is too far forward. .I have my new welder, but would rather build the frame for my 'Diner. 8) 8)
Here's how things look...
Image
The overall look. Pretty cool, if you ask me!!

Image
The radius of the fender opening doesn't match the tire..In this shot, the front is flush to the frame bottom. If I lowered the front, I could set the fender forward more to center it over the tire.

Image
There's 1/2" there...By 1/2" or a mile..still clears!!
I was thinking that the fenders could be a little lower. How much fender below the frame is acceptable?? Any Thoughts?? Y'all???

Image
I really like those fenders. Really nice Grant! ;)

I have to agree with you Steve, the overlook look is really cool!

As for the location, ideally the center of the wheel should line up with the center of the fender radius. But that doesn't look like it's about to happen. However, if we were to paint the sidewall inside the fender black, then you could get away with it being off center!

It looks like the axle might have to be moved back 2 or 3 inches, depending on how low we can bring down the fender. I guess it's time to start looking at pictures again. I think I'll start with the hall of fame!

I lowered the fender. 3" of the fender is below the frame. There's 2" between the top of the tire and the inside of the fender.

It's also centered on the tire.

No, I don't like that. Looking in the hall of fame, it seems the lowest fender only comes down below the body about 1/2". Look at Nick's, Gage's or PAteardropper's fenders.

So can you clamp it back up at 1/2" below the body? It looks like we are going to have to move the axle, eh?

Curiosity question.

What's the size of the wheel and tire?

If you like sure. I don't know anything about metal work... but I suspect we have to grind off "all that weld". Are you a good welder? I can bring a piece of 2" tubing if you want to practice!!!

Maybe if we time this right, we can not only move the axle, but also bolt the sides up! Let me know... how many weeks are you figuring before you'll be ready for company?
