where to install a/c ?

Postby snapper388 » Wed May 13, 2015 7:58 pm

I am beginning the build on a tiny camping trailer, 7' wide 10' long 6' tall .the walls and roof will have 1/2'' Styrofoam insulation, need advice on what type of a/c unit I should use I have a 13,500 roof mount I was planning to use until I saw the topic on hacking a 5000 btu window unit , I also have an extra 5000 that I am not using , will a 5000 be enough in 90 degree weather ? and is there any reason not to use the roof mount? thanks, David

I'm doing what many others have done, turn a window unit into a diy petcool. This allows you to locate the AC window shaker away from the camper and duct in the cool and duct out the warm. While I don't have mine installed yet, I feel pretty certain that a 5k btu unit will do just fine in a small, well insulated trailer. In my pop-up, truck camper I had an 8k that was ceiling mounted and it would run you out.
