Stargazer window

Postby Gwannybear » Fri Nov 13, 2015 6:22 pm

Hello,

I'm looking for an affordable source for a stargazer window. Rough dimensions 48" x9. I think vintek on eBay had it listed but it was a little high. Is he the only source for these windows? Is there anyone out there who is looking to sell one at a lower price? Thanks.

Since you didn't mention what's high or low for what you desire, one hasn't a clue to what would fit the bill for you.
Here's one that looks reasonably priced to me @ $136.95.

I would like to find a stargazer window that opens up (tip out/up) with a screen. Anyone know where one like this could be found? Price is no object. :designing:

You will wake up earlier in the morning looking at the sunrise rather than stars.

ebay has several 12" x 4"0 or 12" x 35" fixed windows for less than $50 plus shipping, no trim ring but you do not really need one. I bought my 12" x 36" windows off ebay for $49.99 plus 25 shipping and installed without trim ring and it has worked great (Check by build journal for how I did mine) . Main thing I looked for was no tint so I could see through at night for stars. I have not seen any that that pop open. They do sell RV escape more square style windows that open and may work. I originally found and bought off ebay a plastic domed shaped windows from an old 1970 camper. it arrived all busted from shipping and after looking at it and the RV glass windows I installed i am glad I bought the glass one and installed it.

You can always make a panal that covers the window and sticks up with velcro

I made my own with 1/8" acrylic. And a basic white curtain with a reflective foil type material on the window side mounted on two spring loaded rods. Image

I like this A LOT! Sometimes I get so caught up in shopping for windows and doors that I forget that while buying a door may be smart, making a window isn't necessarily dumb. Living in South Central Texas tint, even the static cling type, and a reflectIive shade are more requirements than options.

Is this the Vintage Tech window? I got one from there, and the trim/moulding is so stupid and counterintuitive.

Yes, it is the one from VT.

It was a little difficult at first, but once you have the right screws it worked pretty well.

I'm about to install another one soon, maybe it will be easier.

I was wondering where you sourced your acrylic. Home depot type place or a specialty window company?

From day one, I planned to do one on my build, but recently crossed it off my list. Mostly out of fear of leakage. I thought back to the days of fighting the seals for my Camaro's T-tops.

Anyway, I do have some ideas that I feel would be pretty solid, but it seems that water always find a way in.

Those of you that have built, or bought a "stargazer" window, can you update on how well the installation has kept water out, and maybe share some installation ideas?
