I went 4x4ing in Sedona and 6 months later I had my own Jeep. Took it back and it didn’t have the ground clearance. 3 months later and a three in lift I was having a blast. As the wife and I are getting wiser with age we decided a Teardrop would be great for us. I wanted to build on I could take off road so, I had a frame made. 5 ft W X 8 ft L 2X4 box tubing steel frame with 2X2 cross members and a 2X4 hitch. It sits on a 5000 lbs axle (overkill). I mounted the stock 29" jeep tires.
I used Kuffel creek Cubbie plans and overbuild it. 3/4 flooring on 2x2 framing, 5/8 in walls with 1x2 framing, Red oak spars, etc. Being 5ft wide, it's a queen size bed and you can sleep 3 if one person is a child or your real close.
So far I have taken it from AZ into CA and back to Fl to VA and back to Fl. Paved roads dirt roads, and some trails. We have dry camped and state park camped and even spent a night in a Wal Mart parking lot. The only trouble I have is the springs are to stiff and on a washboard/rough trail everything comes out of the cabinets. I have started to post pics of the build in my album. I wouldn't try to take it on the Rubicon trail but with a foot of ground clearance I got allot of places to take it. We have a Marine Battery for lights when necessary. It sits in the jeep with a battery isolator and the alternator keeps it charged. 5 gal water with a sink for dishes. Propane stove. Roof rack for the kayaks. Just installed a faucet for water when available. I’m thinking about using the Jeep to heat water for a shower. And as we live in Florida I’m now thinking about A/C
