hi everyone . been interested in teardrops for along time. im wanting to build one thats cost effective. and capable of doing light offroading . any ideas?

i know from reading all the post that getting the H/F trailer is not the right thing to do, but that's my only option. i will swap axles to a 3500 lb axle . and use jeep leaf springs and gas shocks. my rig is a 92 toyota pickup sitting on 31s right now getting 33x12.5x15 soon. truck has body lift well trailer will have same ground clearance. i have under $1500 budget and will get things paycheck to paycheck.

Not an expert at this, but from what I have read here a 3500 lb axle is about three times what you need. Too heavy an axle and too stiff springs means you're transferring all of the rattle and bang from teh road into your trailer and tearing it up in short order.

A 3500lb axle and hubs is what you want. The 3500lb springs is what you don't want. Get 1000lb springs or even 800lb springs....

thanks stomper!. so a 3500# axle with lighter springs check. im going to try to fab a frame myself but if i cant im going to have to suffice with the HF trailer and just reinforce it.

try looking around on craigslist. some people have old mice infested pop-ups they give away for free.
I picked up mine that way and scrapped all but the frame and title.

in Feb this year i said i was going to start a tear. well i am FINAllY getting to it. its been crazy year so far , but im ordering some steel tubing to start the trailer. going with a 5x8 modified weekender design. yup gonna match the TV's tires and wheels to so i have lift it to cram 35x12.5x15 tires under. should be no prob with some chevy springs and long leaf spring brackets.

3500# axle and 2000# springs.
2x2 steel tubing with 2x3 for teh tongue. same rims and tires as teh Jeep.
