Benroy in Alaska

Postby ratrod71 » Sat Oct 25, 2014 8:58 pm

Hi, my name is Bryan and I live in Fairbanks Alaska. I have wanted to build a Teardrop for many years now. I built a 37 Ford coupe years ago and thought it would be cool to tow a teardrop with it. After studying and getting a game plan in order, I decided to get going on a build. My plan is to build a Benroy profile. I recently completed the frame. It is built from 2"X2"X1/8" square tubing. I custom ordered a Dexter axle to my specs. Next up is to build the floor. This website has truly been valuable, and I have studied many of the builds for hours. Thanks, Bryan

:shake hands: Welcome Bryan from a former Alaskan (in the hills above Goldstream). You're probably the 'Farthest North Teardrop Builder' now. :applause:

Hi Fred, I have seen your posts while browsing this site. I was at Superior Hardwoods the other day and was told of another builder, and they said he was on number three build. I left my name in hopes of meeting him. Bryan

Benroy in Alaska

Postby ratrod71 » Sat Nov 22, 2014 9:08 pm

I worked on the teardrop trailer today. I built the main deck and test fit it to the frame. Next step is to remove the deck, flip it over, and coat it with a waterproof marine epoxy. I used poplar for the perimeter, and secured the poplar to the ACX plywood with Tite-Bond and Torx headed deck screws. I will be fastening the deck to the frame with 3/8" stainless button head allen cap screws with nylon locking nuts.

Very nice ride, looks like you did it good with all the modern drive train and suspension component's. Your tear will look very nice being tugged with it. A friend of mine has a 37 with the original V8-60HP in it still, even back then they were concerned about fuel mileage, but it never panned out as they were seriously under powered and Ford discontinued them after the 1940 model run. Those little engines became very popular because of their size for the midget racers and motorcycles, and today because of how rare, command big bucks for complete engines and even parts. Very Cool I love your ride "ratrod71"   ............Redneck Teepee

The one thing I forgot to ask you..... was your target weight?
Miss Piggy has an 1100 lb. #8 Dexter and weighs 1450 lbs fully loaded.
Rides Great!
Thanks again
