From MI and L@@king for my first teardrop

Postby LittleVintageTrailer » Fri Mar 06, 2015 3:10 pm

Greetings all,

I'm Kelle from Michigan and glad to be a part of your group here. I'm starting to research teardrops and thought this group would be a great one to be a part of. We hope to do more traveling and while I have a large SUV and also own a couple vintage trailers (bigger than a teardrop), I'd like something small to tow with my 4 cylinder car. Tow limit is 1,000 lbs. So I am somewhat limited as far as the weight goes. I'm hoping to find one that fits the weight requirements but also has installed A/C. Kitchen is nice but not required. Oh and I do love the true teardrop/canned ham shape.

I've spent some time searching Craigslist and various other online sources but there sure doesn't seem to be many for sale so I guess I'll need to be patient. I'd be game for building one myself as I've done renovation/restoration work on vintage trailers in the past, however time and lack of a dry place to work on it prevents that from happening. So buying one is the route I'm hoping to take.

If you were looking to buy new one, is there a certain brand you'd say has a good reputation as being quality built?

Hey, I know you! :)

Welcome to the forum Kelle!

As far as quality builds and happy owners I'm partial to my builder (Alaska Teardrop) I found here on the forum who brought my design to fruition and there's Camp-Inn. I've seen them in person many, many times in my travels and even toured their factory a couple of years ago and got to see how they're built. http://tinycamper.com/.

Have fun on your quest of finding your special teardrop! I hope you do get one and we meet up in person someday at a tiny trailer gathering or even by chance at the same gas station sometime in the future!

Welcome Kelle,
We purchased a new Cozy Cruiser in 2013 & love it! Have had no problems with it.
Our TVs are a 2013 Outback & 2011 Rav4 & both tow our Tear with no trouble at all.
I think the weight on ours is just under 1000 though it's rated 1200.
New owner since we purchased ours who I've spoken with & was very helpful on answering a question I had about my trailer brakes. They're located in OR so a bit far for you but check them out.
Good luck & post pictures once you get your new teardrop!
Best, Marie

The question is what the tow rating is really. If you look at the same car in Europe is the rating higher, if so that is the true rating with brakes which are mandatory in the EU. And yes do come to some of the TearJerker gatherings.

Thank you all for such a warm welcome! Sorry I didn't reply earlier. I couldn't remember my password so took me awhile

I'm excited to take our TD on our first camping trip which is coming up in May with some fellow Tearjerkers. Should be fun!

Hi Stacie! Nice to see you here too!

Here is my "La Petite" that I purchased from Geistwerks { http://geistwerks.us/ }. I just love it!

I purchased a REI Alcove and now looking at options for privacy tent for one of the doors so we can change in the morning. If anyone has suggestions let me know.

Nice looking trailer!
There have been a number of threads here on the Forum regarding side tents.
One that is very current.
This will give you an opportunity to learn how to use the "search" feature here. ;)
