Newbie without a TD

Postby rbishopp » Sun Jul 13, 2014 11:38 am

Hello everyone. My girlfriend and I have been camping together for a while. I've always enjoyed tent camping and she's doing great with it even though she is new to sleeping on the ground. While fine with year round tent camp she is not. Both of us are getting older and sleeping off the ground is looking much more appealing. We discovered the Teardrops while browsing around for small campers and now this is all we can talk about. So while we search for an affordable TD we'll keep dreaming and sleeping on the ground. I'd love to try and build my own but it would be a struggle for me and require lots of hands on help.
I'll be lurking around for a while getting ideas for our first TD. I may jump in and ask question now and then and look forward to learning and prepping to take to plunge.

Rich....

Hi Rich ... welcome to T&TTT!!
Wow, I saw not one, but two TD's pop up for sale and haven't seen you since ... Did you pick up one of these TD's or end up buying a new one?

I'm still here and still do not have a TD. I need to pay off some project costs for our house first so now I'm thinking this will have to wait another year.

Hi Rich,
I understand exactly and first things need to come first ... Not always what we want, but family and home come first!
:applause:

Keep your eyes open though, you never know when something may pop up and don't forget, camping can be in the back of a pick-up, tent, TD, or Standy ... Anywhere you unroll your blanket, just enjoy camping and have fun ...

Hi Rich The plans I used said it should only cost around $700 to build. $2,000 later I have a TD I am very proud of. I went overboard on some things and could have done things a little cheaper but am glad I spent every penny. Welcome and pre=planning helps when you do finally build.
Enjoy, Chris

It looks like you have plenty of time to plan and gather what you can before you start. It took me about six months of planning and getting stuff together before I actually started the build. Then it took only six months before I went on my first camping trip. Keep checking out the forum and ask tons of questions!

Yes, stay here! Use the Forum.
Buying is a good plan unless you need a project and have all of the skills, tools and shop.
Watch the For Sale Section.........and keep posting! There are lots of TD's For Sale and some that will be or could be?? ;)

So now that I have a TD I thought I would start a new thread in the build setction since I will be making modifications to "build" it how we want it. I've pasted the link below to but I suspet there is a better way to point someone in that direction.
