Hello from Alaska!

Postby AlaskaJack » Fri Sep 22, 2006 8:25 pm

Well, just today I finalized the deal on selling my truck and camper... although I won't get the cash until Monday.... so guess it isn't a done deal till then! Anyway, I'm seriously considering a tear drop trailer to tow behind my Jeep.... the truck and camper... nice as it was.... was just too much to deal with, a big slab to drive... and besides, lol, my old mom told me once that I was "conceived" in a tear drop trailer on the opening day of trout season on the banks of Rock Creek in the California Sierras... back in June 1941! So maybe there is some sort of "planetary alignment" thing going on, lol. Anyway just want to say "howdy" to you all. I am retired from commercial flying in bush Alaska after 30 some odd years. Divorced, two grown sons and my room and bunkmate is a one year old pit bull terrier..... a "gift" from my oldest son! (who is getting even?) I am looking forward to spending some time "lurking" on this forum.... maybe even post now and again... I'm seriously considering selling my house and moving down into lower America somewhere, as the long dark winters (40 years worth..) are not as much fun as they used to be!

Howdy Dave! .... yep, that time of the year! .... "Go south young man... go south!" Well, I'm pretty much stuck here this winter.... working on a house that is falling apart faster than I can keep up with it... or so it seems!

Hey Doug!

Yes it was Bob Reeve. I never met him, but did meet his daughter Roberta who was married to Don Sheldon.... the "grandfather" of Mt. Mckinley glacier flying. In fact I spent some time at their home in Talkeetna one winter night many years ago. (Don graciously gave me 5 gal of gas.... as I didn't have quite enough in the Cub to get all the way to Anchorage... on a cold clear winter's night...)
Thank you for your greeting!

thanks....I was thinking and thinking....couldn't come up the name of Don Sheldon...I met him when I was in Talkeetna for the Talkeetna to Anch snowmobile race back in 71...he was who they always called to scrape the Japanese climbers off McKinley...pioneered some trick landing gear for the situation...now that dude was a "bush pilot"!!! Doug

for anyone following this thread...Bob Reeve was the founder of Reeve Aleutian Airlines...he was the only one that used to fly out to the neather regions of the Chain in Alaska, in the 60's..in incredibly wicked weather in C-47's a true flying pioneer..... Doug

    Thanks for that compliment, Jack.
So, what parts of the 'bush' did you fly? Possibly we crossed paths along the way. Most of my bush time was spent in Western Alaska. Bristol Bay up to Norton Sound.

I go to a barbecue web site from time to time, and I came across this today. The last post of three here has a link to an article about the place.
