Hello Hector & welcome,

In Florida a trailer under 2000 pounds doesn't need to be titled, just registered. All you need is a weight ticket, my local tag office in St Johns county suggested the county dump scales. I got my weight ticket at a truck stop that had a scale. You take that ticket to the DMV in your county and they will issue the registration and give you a tag. I had a large envelope with all my trailer receipts with me, but they didn't ask for anything but the weight ticket.

I think Dale, Cracker 39 as he is known here might have titled his home built trailer as a travel trailer, maybe he will post his experience here too.

I used a Tractor Supply trailer for my build and I didnt even need to have it weighed. The weight of the trailer is with the paperwork that you recieve with purchase.
I had it registered as a utility trailer. was real cheap.

Welcome, Hector--Coral Springs here.

And the same:

I used a Harbor Freight frame, so all you need is the title that comes with the frame and your store receipt to register it as a utility trailer--so don't LOSE that!

Since Dale built his own frame, and registered as an RV, he had all kinds of problems because of misinformation given him, but he finally got it done.

Thank you Ira and Survey,
ok if I understand it right,a store bought trailer all you need in FL is to register it.if you build under 2000 lbs. you have it weighted take the paper work and have it registered but if you build it and it weighs more than 2000 or if you want it registered as a RV trailer its all together different.I would sure like to see how Dale titled his.
Thanks again Guys

Hector, kind of...

The main thing in Florida is, you first register WHATEVER frame you buy or build, whether a bolt-together HF or other brand, as a UTILITY trailer.

You can do this before you stick ONE piece of wood on it, and you should

No one is going to know or care about the final weight as it relates to registering it as a utility trailer or RV, but if you put a BATHROOM in there, it HAS to be registered as an RV, and not a utility trailer. There are a few Florida "statutes" that require it to be registered as an RV--but I don't think weight is one of them:

There are tons of utility trailers out there--those, for example, hauling heavy landscaping/gardening equipment--that weigh a TON.

It's only the TOILET, according to FL law, that makes it an RV.

Good morning guys,
Sorry it took so long to answer but the wife, son and I went to a very cool RV campground called "The OAKS Campground" in Bushnell FL to visit some of my wife's family and friends down from Canada. The park's theme is bluegrass and country music. Five guys and gals were all playing and having a great time. I thought it was very, very cool. Alot of the people that camp in the grounds are musicians. I'm a little new to the camping thing but I really think that my family and I are going to love it.
Bill, I moved to Tampa in 1972 I think I was 14 at the time. Four 4 years ago we moved to Odessa. We like the area.
Ira, I like that idea its not going to have a bathroom anyhow so why register as a RV.
Kitcarguy, I also would like to start in the near future.
I have ordered Steve's Fredericks cd (shop manual). Steve seems to be a very nice gentleman, he not only sells the cd but he also gives customer support something that is rare these days.
