Hi from Worcester, that's England not Mas'

So glad to have found this site it's just brilliant and even keeps me out of the pub.

I've made a couple of camping trailers but now want a good one

I need it mainly when I go to weekend Agility shows with my 2 dogs. Often the weather is wet so I've drifted away from the pure tear style. It looks like a tear at the front but is square at the back. I found a site showing the Camptrailer which is similar to my idea. Lift the back, like a tailgate and it becomes the roof of the awning, just attach canvas sides. Entrance being under the awning rather than on the side. I plan to use mainly 1/2 inch ply then lay on a light fibreglass mat, then flowcoat.

I'm sure there are still corners of this site I've not yet found but I wonder if anyone else has used this tailgate/awning roof idea.

I'm starting on it in the next few weeks. I'll also try to get my head around putting pictures on

I've never seen a T or a TTT over here but I'm doing my bit

Cheers, John.

Welcome to the assylum.....I mean board John,

I am sorry that your newly acquired addiction(and it will become one) is going to keep you from the Pub.

If you look through the design library(link at top of the page)you should be able to find what you are looking for.

Welcome, John. There are two things on the Camptrailer that I think would be worth copying:

Firstly if you put the hinge for the tailgate a little forward of the rear end, so the tailgate becomes an inverted 'L' shape, it will give you more headroom under the tailgate, which might save a bumped head or two. Of course it means building an 'L'-shaped tailgate, but that's not too hard.

Secondly, it's worth making a full awning that fits over the whole tailgate to avoid all the sealing issues with just adding side screens around the tailgate. It might be worth stepping the roof up 25mm/1" just in front of the tailgate, to stop water running back under the front edge of the awning.

If you're looking for someone to make the awning, or just side screen panels, I suggest you look for boat canopy makers as they are much more used to custom work and don't charge the earth for it. Caravan or tent work tends to be standard, high volume stuff and they're usually not interested in custom one-offs.

Welcome to the playground John. You seem to have a plan coming together, just don't be supprised if you change your mind a couple of times. Means you get to do another. 8)

As Mary K said we live for the pictures, especially of anything that is not ourselves. ;) Ya gotta watch for the Madjack and Mad Aussi cause they are real fanatics and even want to see pictures of your pretty face. 8)

Enjoy
