Another newbie here

Postby virraszto » Sat Aug 18, 2007 11:40 pm

I just bought a vintage 1962 13ft Terry travel trailer 2 days ago. I've never owned one before, but have been looking for a few months now. I've looked at some of the photos on this website and wow...nice! I didn't buy this to restore it. I bought it to park in my backyard as a little get away for either the kids or hubby and I.---although we may use it while traveling...what the heck? why not? ;)

I don't know if a 13 footer qualifies as a tiny trailer? I put some before and after photos of it here. http://www.PictureTrail.com/gid17519054

So far, I've painted the inside. Everything works on it which I am amazed at. I would like to make a new cushion for the couch/bed and a few other things.

Wondered what you all thought of the condition of it? Ideally, if I were good with restoring things.. which I'm not... I would love to repanel the inside instead of painting it. Hubby is not good with stuff like that either, so paint is my friend...lol.

Anyhow, I'm new to this forum and have been reading a lot of posts.

Thanks for the opportunity to post here. ;)

Sure looks like a Tiny Travel Trailer to me... and a nice one at that.
They are worth taking care of. They are only going up in value... Enjoy!

Wow...all your beautiful trailers put mine to shame.
You've put a lot of work into them and it shows!

My original plans were to turn our 15x20 outbuilding/shed into a cozy
little getaway, but the more hubby griped about how he wanted it for
a shed---to put all the stuff in the garage in it, I made a deal with
him that he could have it, if I could get a small travel trailer. And so the hunt was on.......

No, I didn't paint the stove or the ice box. I did get paint
*on* them though, and I will scrape it off. I don't really
care for the brown, so I might eventually paint them
white.

I have checked this trailer over for leaks and I could not
find any evidence at all. The previous owners said there
weren't any, but I checked anyhow. It has been raining
here in Mi for a few days now, and I see no leaks. That's
gotta be a good sign. There is a small area
above the bathroom door where the paneling is dry, but
after I primed
it and painted it, it looks ok. For now, it will do. I think
it looks much better white. It's nice and bright and clean
looking now.
What I was really impressed about is that this trailer has
NO bad smell to it.

It has one gas light and I have no idea about that. I was
going to take it off, but will have to have hubby look at it.
There is a gas line going to it and I don't want to mess with that.

I would like to retile the floor eventually. Right now it has
linoleum that is not original. I kinda would like black/white
tiles for a retro look.

The windows open and close like they are brand new. All
the screens are good, and the windows are nice and clean.

I tried the stove and oven and they both work great. The
water has a tank or it can be hooked up to a hose. The toilet
works. It's got the original cot/hammock above the couch/bed
so that two adults and a small (weightwise) person can sleep
comfortably. Also, since there are four of us, I think a
small foam matress can be put on the floor for a fourth person.

I'm excited about all the things I can do for this trailer to
make it look good. :)

Thanks for the welcome. I hope to get some good ideas
here from this forum.

Hi V, looks like you have quite a find there. Snuggling in the back yard is fine, but if you can make it roadworthy, you will find that next to a babbling brook or some tall pine trees in the mountains, it is even better. That sure qualifies as a Tiny Travel Trailer, I have a similar Kenskill and I wish it were in as good shape as yours. Lay that new floor, hook 'er up and join the friendly, relaxed camping crowd.

Welcome to the forum, we're here to help, answer questions and/or help you eat any prime rib that you happen to cook, if you're parked next to me in a peaceful, secluded camp site.
