Hi from WA State

Postby NWsage » Fri Aug 31, 2007 4:47 pm

I just started looking over this site ... lots of good information, but so much to learn. Hubby and I are looking for a TD. I like to tent camp, but hubby likes his cushy bed ... so, I figure a TD is a good compromise. I'm going to keep studying the site, but if you have any suggestions for us, feel free to speak up.

We have a '59 pickup that we'll be hauling it with, so we want something that looks vintage. It doesn't need to be old, just have that look. Hubby's a big guy (and I'm not small), so we need something that's fairly easy to get in and out of and at least 5' wide. I'd like something that I can decorate myself (curtains & such) and I'd like to outfit the galley myself, if possible. New or used is ok ... we just don't have the skills to build or rehab it.

We live in the Snoqualmie Valley, about 30 miles east of Seattle. I wonder if there's someplace close that we could rent a TD to try out for a weekend ...

Welcome Suanne and hubby,

Don't know about TD rental, but I bet someone here does. You might look at the Design Library above, to get an idea what you want.

But mostly hang out, ask questions, and have fun. Hope you enjoy yourselves.

Suanne, welcome. Ed Ester builds & sells teardrops and is in Seattle (Burian). Ed has made 42 teardrops to date. He has one for sale (used) as of last weekend and possibly could make you one to your liking if so desired. Ed's phone # 206-243-5033 Fax 206-243-0160. Good luck in finding exactly what you want. The teardrop on the right is one of his. :D Danny

Hi Suanne, I too 'used to be' a tent camper, loved driving in the tent stakes, pitching the tent, setting up the cots, blowing up the air mattresses, sweeping out the musty floor, and cutting trenches around the sides to drain rain water away.

Now that I am older, and probably not as ambitious, I enjoy backing my teardrop into the camp site, kicking my shoes off and slipping into my made-up bed on a soft, cushy mattress and relaxing a while prior to opening the hatchlid that reveals a 'ready to cook" galley, with all of the kitchen equipment readily accessable.

I guess the point I am trying to make is, that once you spend some time in an 'off-of-the-ground' teardrop interior, I doubt that you will want to return to tenting. You are going to meet some of the friendliest folks in a teardrop, will share ideas and adventures with them and hopefully enjoy the comraderie found while attending some of the teardrop gatherings.

Welcome to the board, hope you are successful in your search for the perfect tear, and when you do find it, take some pics, post em and we will look forward to meeting you as you proudly enjoy the teardropping world.

Roly

Hi Suanne, welcome to the forum.

I build Tent Topped Camping Trailers. We have a wood based trailer box version, that has a couple of tent options. Like your husband I want a comfortable queen size bed to sleep on. These are also a good home-builder project.

Danny, Thanks for giving us Ed's contact information. John and I are planning to meet up with him to check out his 5' wide tomorrow. He was a pleasure to speak with over the phone. In the meantime, I keep researching and refining our lists of what we want (and don't want) in a TD. I think we're getting close to taking the dive!
