I got the bug to build a teardrop. I just got back from the Charlotte auto fair where I slept in the back seat of my F150 pickup truck. I'm too old for that. I have built 3 boats out of plywood and I can weld. So I may be overqualified.

I'm thinking of a 5 x 8 on homemade frame with torsion suspension. I first thought of frameless 3/4 inch ply sides. But I have a couple sheets of 1/8 aluminum diamond plate so I thought maybe 1/2 inch Birch for sides (good side in) and laminating the diamond plate to the ply for exterior. Any thoughts?

Roof would be natural ply with diamond plate at front and back for protection. I have been intensly reading the various posts. Great site!

Hi Ralf,

Welcome to the forum. You ask very good questions, I wish I had very good answers. But I'm sure someone on here will, if not here, then go down in General Discussion and ask again.

Hope you have fun and post lots of pictures when you start your build.

Hi Ralf, welcome to the board. I am sure there are builders here that can steer you in the right direction. Good luck on your build, take pics and post 'em, and remember ask any questions you like.

Roly

I'm in Fayetteville 5 hours away. You go east then north through Virginia (I-81) or north to morgantown then east through Maryland to get there. My brother lives there so i know the routes
