Hello, I have been snooping here for two months now. Love all the info, comments, friendship. I have a boat trailer that is 5'2" wide. My question is.... Should I cut the trailer to accomidate 5' material, or leave it as is? What are the $$$ ramifications of entering the 5+ world?

OK, maybe I didnt do this right. Mom always told me Grant meant great. But nobody wants a great, everybody wants a grant!
I love you guys like a family allready. My wife and I are looking for an escape from home. We are married 5 years with 6 blended kids age 16-25. We belong outside but sleeping on the ground is a bit rough. We saw our first tear @ Mt Rushmore in Sept. and pulled a card from the seam. Bob Krepsky is the name on the card, he gets all the credit.
Working in our yard is our passtime. Our yard is 40 acres. We have 1000 trees planted for sale hoping that they will afford us our travel. I am just beginning our build with the frame, Diane is the woodworker. She is an accomplished amature furniture maker. I can't wait to see how she finishes this baby! Hope to participate at some gatherings soon.

Welcome! Entering the fiver+ world means your bed can be nice and spacious. Going over five feet wide, if you skin the roof and hatch with aluminum, will probably make it difficult to find aluminum sheets in the sizes you'd need. If you're building a woodie or fiberglassing/painting it's easy to build wider than 5 feet. The big $$$ step, one you're already planning to go beyond, is going wider and longer than 4' x 8'.

to the playground gdpipcorn. You can make it 5 wide and it will be nice. Truth is most do so it fits a queen bed. Mine is 6'4" wide and very comfortable. We like it. It does cost more. Not much if you don't also go 5' high or 10 long.

You will have to plan your seams so they fall where you want them on the roof. There are lots of ways to do this. You might even find aluminum if you look really hard.

Enjoy and keep the bubble oil level or the madjack and madAussie will be................well ya know! 8) :pictures: :pictures: :pictures:

Welcome GD...

Chances you'll be building with 4x8 sheets of plywood. If that's true, then leave the trailer at 5' 2". You'll be cutting 2' 10" off the sheets of plywood.

Another lady woodworker. Welcome to the crowd... we've got quite a few here!

Welcome gdpipcorn and woodworking spouse,

Glad you found the forum. I hate to brag, but Miriam C ( Aunti M ) built our trailer while I was at work. I just helped with the heavy lifting and some of the epoxying and some things that took two people to do. She did the design and the layout and all of the cutting. She is a heck of a cabinet maker. So, I'm sure if your wife is a woodworker, just supply the material and enjoy the trailer. The enjoying is the part I do the best. :)

See you around.

Thanks for the encouragement. Leaving the frame 5'2" will save me some work. The sooner to build up.

Mine is 63" wide. With 1.5" walls it gives me 60" inside. Perfect for a queen bed.

You can't go wrong with buying Steve Frederick's CD. Just the tips alone make worth the price.
