I got hooked the first time I saw a teardrop and I'm going to build one.I have'nt decided on plans yet or to build one 4' or 5' wide. Also, is the Harbor Freight trailer good quality for this application?
I would appreciate any and all advice.

Thank You in advance,

Bob

Welcome!
Once you have spent a while browsing, you'll see that the HF trailer is a very popular base for a T/D.
The frame is easily modified to 5', again, browsing will yield quite a few examples. I'm sure you'll get a lot of help here.
Have fun!
Again, Welcome!

Welcome, I used the HF trailer. Mine is a 4x8 with no mods.
My Idea of plans are a tape measure, a saw and a dream.

You will find about 3 schools of thought on this forum

The thrifty folks who built on HF trailers because they are inexpensive

The Gotta be US made folks who purchase the ready to tow flatbed trailers from Lowes , Menard's , Tractor Supply and many others and modify as needed.

And finally the purist who can afford the Custom fabed frames and Dexter torsion flex axle assemblies. ( Where I want to be someday)

I have 2 TD's my 4x6 is on a 40 x 48 HF and my 5X10 utilizes a 4x8 HF axle assembly and the salvaged tongue .I bought a damaged HF for $75. The Trailer frame was bent from the previous owner trying to load a 1200# landscape bolder onto it from a backhoe. I custom made the frame ( pics in the album ) but it's still a HF trailer as far as I am concerned. You will hear pros and cons on all camps but there are a bunch of Tears on HF trailers and we all love our little guys. Go with the best you can afford and have fun.

Image to the playground Bob. A custom made (if done well) is always the "best". However there are some great TD's rolling around the country with Harbor Freight trailers under them.

Enjoy the planning and keep us posted. :pictures: :pictures: :pictures: ;)
