Hi All :D
Just wanted to Introduce us, I am Ted and my wife is Melodie, we live just south of Dayton Ohio We are 50ish and empty nesters (at last). I started getting the tear drop bug this past summer (2007), when a man stopped to get gas at a station were I was testing the storage tanks. I went home and looked it up on the web and the rest is history. We are building the Generic Benroy from Mike's plans (and some of our modifications). I will be adding pictures in the near future.
Thanks Ted

TEd,

Welcome to the board. I think you choose a real nice plan and good luck with the build. If you have questions you can certainly get the answers here. I have some friends in the Dayton area.

to the playground. Sounds like you have a plan so get in and make lots of saw dust.

Keep the bubble oil level. :pictures: :pictures: :pictures: Pictures are funny things, if you don't take lots of them you can't go back for do-overs. ;)

Hi Ted and Melodie,

Welcome to the forum. You've picked your design, now all you've got to do is get it built. The sooner you start, the sooner you will be camping. If you have questions just ask.

See you around.

Project update

Postby tbrewer1 » Mon Dec 03, 2007 6:53 pm

Hi Group 8)
Here are some pictures of the build, we started the end of August so the dates are wrong (I didn't set the date on the camera). I now have the sides on, spars, galley started, basic electrical started, inside cabin ceiling installed. Contuining on the the galley and starting the 12 volt electrical. Lots of work still to do BUT I LOVE IT

Hi Ted,

Welcome to the forum. For a second I thought that was me, but I stopped at the gas station south of Norwalk, not Dayton... Opps!

Anyways, welcome to the fun! And take lots of pictures!

Ted, it looks like the bottom of you door cutout is way too high. Not only will it pinch your legs if you sit in the doorway, but it's going to kill you getting in and out.

The "basic rule" is that the bottom lip should be one half the thickness of your mattress.

Looks can be decieving my sides extend below my frame 1"' the frame is 2 1/2 " deep and the floor is 3/4" plus 2 layers of 3/4" foam and a subfloor of 7/!6 osb Thats more than 6" So it may not be as deep as it looks ! However , I fully agree you should be able to see 1/2 of the mattress thickness when the door is open.

You are right about being to high, It's set up to be level with the bed (6"). But the jig saw has lowered 1.5 " and I'll go to a 8" bed instead of a 6". ;)
