NM 1947 Tourette TD

Postby NM Sarah » Wed Jun 24, 2015 9:19 am

Hello folks, I thought I'd start here before reading all the posts on my freetime! I'm buying a 1947 Tourette that is in pretty good condition considering it's been sitting for a long time. I will be needing help and advice as I fix up the little Turtle though.
First off we're having a hard time, ie impossible time, to find the VIN number. Without that I can't register it unless I get it inspected by a Police officer. The title is coming from CA as it's not been registered here in NM before either. Any suggestions as how to go about getting it all legal?
Secondly, I'll be looking into weight considerations as I will be hopefully towing it with my 1972 Land Rover with a small 4 cyl engine and wherever I go from here i have to drive in the mountains. SLow and steady I guess.
There is a propane fridge, stove, a sink and a ten gallon water storage tank. To be honest I'll probably strip out everything to start and slowly add what I really need.
Okay, that's it for now. THanks!
Sarah

Welcome Sarah Most of the time the vin is stamped on the tounge of the trailer and there should be a tag on it with the weight and all that info

    A well preserved 68 year old antique trailer and you are gonna gut it like a fish !

This unit is like a page out of history are you sure there is no way you can live with the original charm of the base unit.
Perhaps some one on the forum would be willing to trade you a more modern unit that would be more to your liking.

I know it's yours but it is a piece of teardrop history :NC
Growing older but not up !

I agree with Bob, if it's original and unmolested you probably should keep it that way as it's probably one of few surviving at most.
Ultimately it's your decision but you are custodian of a treasure from the past
