From Land of Lincoln

Though I registered in 2013, my first post was this week, so thought I'd say hello and thanks for all the wealth of information here!

So far, I've installed a tow bar and light harness on my car. Plan to get a NT 5 x 8 in a few weeks (when near a store) and we'll see where it goes.

Welcome from another flat lander. Join us for any of the Land of Lincoln Tear Jerker gatherings, whether you have a trailer finished or not. It's a great way to meet other campers and see how they built their trailers. The first gathering of 2017 is usually the last weekend of April at Kohler -Andre State park in Sheboygan WI.

Thought I would mention my move to Thousand Islands region and at least semi-retirement in case someone here is next door or close.

welcome! I grew up on an Illinois prairie farm 60 years ago- even to this day, I like the wide open vistas. Plan on spending $3000 or more-

I looked back on wood prices on my build from Weekender II in 2014-15-
3/8" plywood cost me $14.90. it's now almost $32 a sheet at Lowes
the 2x6 x 10ft that I ripped down into 1.5" x 5ft wall studs is now $14 each, I paid $7.89.
5/8" plywood fort the floor went from $21 to $42
4x8 Harbor freight trailer is about a $100 more-
I'm guessing I would have to spend $500 more to do the same build in 2021, six years later.
Compared to buying a commercially build camper, that's not too bad.
I have a wider tow vehicle now- a 2020 Dodge Journey, so I would probably go with a 72" width instead of 68" , so my single bunk could go cross ways inside.(I'm 5 ft 7-/2" tall)
Wall and roof would be wood studs, using glued rigid foam with glued and screwed PVC bathroom panels for the roof and side walls
I'll tell my wife I'm building an enclosed utility trailer, haha. I don't think I would go with 64" side walls again- maybe 56" for less crosswind load.
In the 15 minutes it took writing this, I already have a plan formulated in my mind's eye, haha. :)
