Hi from Massachusetts

Postby Tamatha825 » Sun Sep 23, 2018 12:02 am

My name is tammy and I been living out of my car and trailer for a little over a year now. The trailer I built was not safe or big enough to sleep in. I used it for storing things, solar mounted on top, showering and cooking when weather was bad. Now I have a bigger trailer but still need to keep my weight down so I am building a teardrop. Would like to build a slide out but not sure if it will happen. I am towing with a Kia Soul so it can be challenging. Would like to learn from here and hopefully build something for the last time.

Should have said that there is only wood in the floor of the drop floor. All the walls and front is 1 1/2 insulation foam board covered with glue and canvas. 1100# camp ready. with 450 watts of solar. Two 30" wide beds Composting toilet(modeled after a C-head) 11" of storage under the beds. Pull-out awning. Tonua pickup cover galley hatch. Have fun with your build.

Something like this?

Kenneth:

What are those wood-colored chunks for?

My name is tammy...

Hello!

I've seen a couple of videos of commercial teardrops that expand with large slide outs –-but those models seem to be staying below the horizon for some reason. Perhaps cost or some other issue.

I'd be concerned with dust and water intrusion. It looks like Kenneth has addressed this issue with seals. (Maybe he'll chime in.)

The wood chunks are twist locks, They go in the oval holes to lock the lid on. I have not used the teardrop enough to say on if dust would get in. Dust like water has a talent of getting in. There is totes with better seals. But more $$. One could put a permeate bubble (spherical oval with a flat bottom) on the side just for you feet, As long as it does not extend part the fenders(no place for dust leaks).
