New from Spokane.

Postby uncle jimmy » Mon Apr 10, 2023 1:43 pm

Just discovered this site, I don't know what took me so long, I mean it's not hidden.
I have wanted to build a teardrop for a very long time, I don't have the skills to build a birdhouse. True story. you don't want to see that. Then one day, December or so of 21 I was visiting my dad, we were talking about camping in general, I told him I had wanted to build one. We started watching videos on the YouTube, found a guy that had documented a build he did. Very well documented, explained, showed the videos in small 20 to 30 minute pieces, I said, yep, I can do that birdhouses notwithstanding. Ordered his plans, followed his videos, made some changes, some for better, so not so much. Started building in February, went out for scale weight on July 31, first trip to Glacier August 5. Already looking to build another one.

Having zero luck with pictures. There is apparently no such thing as free photo hosting anymore. I'll keep looking, but so far not much luck.

I think I got it figured on out.

floor started in February of 21

August 5, was the maiden voyage to Glacier Nat.
Park for a long weekend.

In between lots of glue drying and sawdust sweeping. Even got kicked out of my garage at my apartment complex, because, and I quote "garages are strictly for parking 4 wheeled vehicles, maybe a motorcycle if you can fit it next to your car" That ultimately led me to other living accommodations, but that's not what this forum is about.

Interior turned out OK, not completely happy with it, but not terrible.

Anyway, that's enough baby pictures, nobody likes baby pictures.

Wow! Will you build me some bird houses? Awesome craftsmanship.

Four or five feet wide? Do you know the weight?

It's a 4x8. Sides are a single sheet of 3/4 maple ply....yeah, maple. Cause I guess I hate money. Explains alot actually. Did I mention there were things I'd do differently? That's one of those things. Wife says it weighed 850, My memory says 950. But my memory also tells me don't argue with her memory. So I guess around 900 is close enough. As far as the craftsmanship goes, I learned alot in the process, and even more in the short time on this site. I am thinking of a do over, incorporating lessons learned and new ideas. Math suggests I could get a 7 ft ceiling in there if I lengthened the sides two feet and widened it another two feet, Then to keep the lines, it would have to be taller too, a drop floor. . .I'm ready for a three on three pick up game. I appreciate the compliments, It hasn't been the worst experience putting glue to wood.

Mine just dismisses the idea, saying it's fine. Unless it's a dirt bike. Then I am met with a very firm and seemingly non-negotiable STOP! I mean sometimes I think I should go get checked out. I hear the words, but the context is all wrong.
