Pete from the central coast of Calif

Postby Petee » Wed Oct 04, 2023 3:57 pm

Hello, I'm Pete from the central coast of Calif. I'm new to this, but I was given and old beater. I started tearing off the exterior plywood and I am finding I'm not too impressed with the construction. Apparently it was a kit from years ago. My first question is..... Is it worth it to try and keep the existing crappy framing or level out and start over? I'm thinking it will be faster to just start over. The first builder definitely wasn't a wood worker. I would like to do 1.5"×1.5" framing so I can run the electrical thru it and insulate the entire thing.

Probably good if you can post pictures, but my first impression is that if you think it would be better to start over from the trailer, you are probably right. Then you will get what you want, and the quality you want.

I've done it that way. There's a better way.

It's much easier to make the wall framing from sheets of 3/4" plywood. And yes, 3/4" insulation in the walls works well.

Hi Pete!

Where on the Central Coast? I'm in Los Osos.

I'd rather be camping.
