Another way to do a bed lift

Postby aggie79 » Mon Sep 25, 2017 2:35 pm

I just saw video on the new Winnebago Revel van RV. It has a bed lift in the back. The bed is lifted with straps instead of cables. There are two guides on one side to keep it positioned. It's hard to tell, but seeing the cable carrier, it appears that the electric lift mechanism is in the bed frame rather than mounted to the ceiling or floor. There's a brief shot of it around the 1:41 mark in this video:

Thanks for posting it aggie. Motor drive is definitely inside/under the bed, you can see a bump under the bed. I wonder about the details of how it works. There could be a worm drive that rotates a shaft/tube that rolls/unrolls the belts? That way all four lifting points are synchronized. What do you think? This is not the first time I see beds lifted with belts like that in travel trailers, someone else did it before, don't remember the name. But not sure if the drive was in the bed though. Using belts makes more sense in this application than steel cables.

Nice lift. I saw a number of interesting ideas in their van. Thanks for sharing it.

I think you're correct about the shaft drive. It's probably very similar to an "upside down" version of this garage lift but with straps/belts:

Doing it the way Winnebago did allows you to have the structure height of the lift within the structure height of the bed and not have added structure height at the ceiling of the cargo trailer.

Yep, I can see all of that electro-mechanical built into bed frame, and just a coiled power /remote cord, ( old style phone cord) and the belts mounted at ceiling.

McDave

Or, a small on board battery that charges when bed is "docked" in up or down position and a RF or IR remote. Skip the cord.
