Converting Cargo Trailers into TTTs

Ok... so I have been smelling a strong mold smell in my CTC for well over a month now and was thinking I had a leak somewhere, but I could find no evidence of a leak.

Long story short, I left a 2 bananas in my microwave that I put there when packing for my last trip which I had to abort for work.

It was nasty! No pics to share .. just take my word for it.

Smell gone now. The bananas were completely decomposed and dried up hard. Nothing but the peels were left. Amazing!

Ok.. making some upgrades prior to camping season here and in anticipation of spending a lot of time on the road in the CTC next spring. I have been wanting to build a new dinette top slightly wider than previous since I have room in the aisle. The dinette I have now was cut down from the donor camper and is a bit flimsy and the gray paint is chipping off. I added 4" to the width which is just enough to let me set there with my elbows both on the table. Much more comfortable. The aisle opens up there much more than 4 inches.. so space not really used.

I decided on 3/4 in furniture grade plywood, routed edges and then I did my best to create a faux granite look with a little kit I got on Amazon. Basically a black base coat, three shades (charcoal, tan, white) dabbed on with sea sponges. Letting it all dry now then I will put the second coat of clear epoxy on. Should be dry enough tomorrow to install.

Finish coat drying. Not going to fool the granite folks... but I think it looks nice. Just couldn't find anything in the size I needed... so made it the best I could.

That's nice! Looks like granite or "granit-yte" to me. I've done a few faux finishes, they look good if you know when to stop. I tend to try to achieve symmetry and balance but nature doesn't work like that. The more random the pattern is the more realistic it appears. The real secret is getting enough clear coat on to give the finish a deep look. I found that at least 3 coats are needed, and knock it down with fine sand paper and clean with alcohol and a tack rag in between coats. You can go too deep and then it just looks like a piece of plastic so again, ya gotta know when to stop. I really like that ogee edge. I use it all the time to soften edges and get a classic look.
Looks good Don.

Thanks all.

The epoxy dried much quicker than I expected.

Much better.

Thanks.... I probably will have to re-upholster the cushions at some point now. It was pointed out to me that they clash with the table top now. Never said I was an interior decorator.

They do? I guess I'm in the same boat with you. I don't see anything wrong with the cushions. ... :NC ..

flboy, Howdy;

Then it will be the rugs in the kitchen, then ... crap, just use some
of your dabbin' sponges and do some mods to the upholstery ;)

Thanks! It is the same edge I routed on all the cabinet doors.

I ordered some .025 diamond plate to panel the chair bases within the next few weeks. I seem to kick the white bases up a bit and scuff them. The diamond plate will look good I think. Going to find out... it is on the way.

Has anyone on the forum noted a purchase list for getting started on the build portion of these trailers? Favorite products used? Where to purchase?
