Converting Cargo Trailers into TTTs

Mike, take a look at my pics and you will see what I did with my galley. I, too camped with the trailer before putting in the galley wall. It worked okay but it is drafty (especially in Sept) for sleeping.

Cathy,

What are the dimensions of your trailer?

Its 5' wide and if I remember correctly 15' from the back to the front of the nose piece (its in winter storage right now so I can't check). The front nose piece is about 2 feet deep and tapers down quite low. That's why the portapottie is where it is. There is head room when sitting.

Pro,

just curious.. how wide is your side door?

prohandyman wrote:Mike
I installed a rv latch on my cargo, with just a little difficulty. My door thickness is shy by about 1/4", but I can build that up with a wall panel. The framing around the door was a liitle tough to cut into for the latch to strike thru. And I plan to remove the cam bar altogether and fill the holes. I also would like to put rv latches in the rear door.
I only wish it were 10 ft long, as the cabin will be snug. Good thing the wifey and I still like each other. I am trying to calculate weight so I know if I need to move the axle or not. It seems a little forward. This pic still has the cam bar attached.

26" from side to side of trim. Window is 13" wide. Had to trim some of the strap hinge back on the top one.

Thanks.. I was told today the 32" door would not fit on mine so I had to go to a 24", so I was curious as to the width of yours.

btw, you could probably cover up those cam bar holes with a nice porch light.

Mike-

Glad to hear you got a trailer ordered. Having a shell to start with will knock a lot of time off your build.

I like the idea of a bright, cheerful color...it will add a lot of fun to the project. So is this trailer school bus yellow? Or is this going to be a lemondrop?

Best wishes

We dont know for sure.. its a new color this year for Pace and they did not have any samples. You can see it on Pace's website, but who knows how accurate that is. We should find out today the delivery date.

Mike
After using the trailer balance spreadsheet, I have decided to move my axle back 7 inches on my conversion, to accomodate to galley weight in the back. And since my trailer has a torsion axle, I just bought 2 mounting brackets from a trailer dealer, planned on welding them to the frame. But, the old brackets are welded on solid (which is re-assuring) so I had to modify my new brackets a little to fit. Just tacking them in the spots I want, since I just have a 110 vt wire feed welder. Will take it to a welder that has more capacity for a better weld. I will show you pics when I get it welded. I had hoped to leave the axle where it was, but just too much weight out back.

Thank you for the update... I do not plan on moving mine, hopefully it works OK that way.

I will have room for 'ballast' in the Vnose section, so I am thinking I will be ok.
