Wind deflector

Postby drcurran » Thu Aug 21, 2008 5:19 pm

For those of you towing an enclosed cargo trailer do any of you use a wind deflector (guess that is what it is called) that is a "wing" to direct the air over the trailer to help with the wind resistance. I'll be towing with a 2007 Rav 4 and it pulls just fine with this 6 X 12 behind it, but I was wondering if the wind deflector was worthwhile. Thanks

Dan

PS "Wing" mounted on the car roof.

I doubt you could get the trailer close enough, or the wing high enough to do any good. Besides, it would look really odd...

I don't use one, although my not-so-tiny travel trailer towers well over my minivan.

I think it would make more sense to put an aerodynamic nosecone directly on the top portion of the trailer front, than anything on the tug, mostly due to the big gap which Cliffmeister mentioned.

I did a quick Google search for "aerodynamic trailer nosecone" and stumbled across a company which specializes in these things: NoseCone. They have pages dedicated to exactly our situation: Pull Trailers - Aerodynamics and Pull Trailers - NoseCone.

My box trailer has a big round nose cone. It came that way.

If it makes any difference it is slight.
