Getting Started on my 6x12 conversion

Hello to All,
I've been reading alot on your website for the last 3 weeks b4 I decided to join. I think for the most part, I have alot of things figured out (thanks to you guys and girls). I do have a question or 2? I was wondering if its possible to put in a window AC unit ($99.00)inside the trailer without having to cut into the actually trailer? Has anybody done this before? Drip pan to catch the condensation, or will I just have to spend $300+ for a portable AC or less if I can find one on craigslist. The next question is can someone recommend a website to purchase a window (that opens and potentially has a screen to provide some type of airflow). I would like to put the window directly into the side door. Pics will be posted soon,

You need to vent the hot side due to how an air conditioner works or you will negate any cooling benefits it produces.

I built a wall about a ft inside of the rear doors. I then mounted my 5000 btu ac unit. It works great.

In the Georgia summer I am able to keep the interior at 67 degrees. Insulated my walls and ceiling with 3/4 " foam insulation. My trailer is a PACE 6 x 12

To kind of "tag along" on this topic. For those who have used a window AC unit for their CT what size AC units have you found to work well for what size CT. I have a 6 X 12 and I'm thinking of using 8000 BTU in a well insulated 6 X 12 should do the trick. Putting it throught the side wall on a rolling shelf was my idea and about 24" off the floor. Any idea and comments are appreciated. Thanks!

I use a 5000 btu in my 6 x 12...... gets pretty chilly in there even in the south Georgia heat. I could hang meat in there with a 8000 btu.

got the AC thing figured out, thanks guys, got a portable AC unit off craigslist yesterday. Now my next issue is installing the electricity?? I went by the RV store today to pick up what I thought I needed to bring power to the CT and got confused with the guy gave me a 30amp inlet with a twist lock. I think thats what I needed, but even he was unsure if this was correct, so I didnt get it. Long story short, what parts do I need to have campground hook-up, keep in mind, I'm starting from scratch, did this guy actually have the part right?? (reason I ask this question is because the inlet looked completely different from the 30amp outlets at the campground. Please point me in the right direction or places and parts to buy.

Hi Yes the air conditioning should be installed high. Cool air drops and warm air rises. Since the return air duct is on the face of the unit.... this would allow the unit to operated more efficently.

I believe he was trying to sell you the right part. I decided against the twist lock shore power inlet. I went with the regular straight plug inlet....and a 12 guage extension cord from walmart.
Walmart also sells the adpters for RV hook ups for about 5 bucks.
