Frame of PVC?

Postby drcurran » Wed Jul 21, 2010 7:32 pm

I tried the search feature and could not find this. Do I remember someone starting a build using PVC pipe as the frame. Was wondering how it went.

I used pvc for my pop-out frame on my cargo, works pretty well! Has stood up to pretty good gusts out on the outer banks!

I would think that PVC would be far too brittle even if you used schedule 80 for anything that is structural/frame.

I think black pipe would be a better choice...

I modeled something in my CAD software using PVC, but I would never build it. It's just not strong enough.

PVC

Postby drcurran » Fri Jul 30, 2010 7:49 pm

I was looking for a post from several months ago posted by someone who was going to build a CT from PVC pipe. I was just wondering how he / she made out.

I tinker with PVC for stuff like pet bird toys stands. And used it a lot for landscape work.

It's pretty brittle stuff sometimes, especially when the temps take a dive.

Ever seen it shatter in tiny bits when impacted?

My favorite Tear so far is the carboard & Fiberglass one.

don't know how you would add sides or top to a pvc one
