Just found this at Home Depot, for less than $42. Makes a great bed frame, 6' x 3' x 18" high with plenty of storage underneath. All I need is a mattress or piece of foam, preferably latex and a thin sheet of plywood.

:) One of my favorite pastimes, going to hardware/building supply stores and looking for things I can put to unintended purposes.

Since I'm trying to keep the weight down, I was looking for alternatives to building a wooden bed frame or platform. I noticed this plastic shelving set and pictured it laying down. 6' x 3' x 1.5 feet and very sturdy, sturdier as a bed platform than as shelving. Each of the 5 shelves has a 2.25 inch edge that serves as a slat for the mattress.

All I need is thin piece of plywood or pegboard or whatever, cut to the size of my mattress. Ordered a 6" thick latex core and will build my own mattress to fit. I expect to sleep better on it than at home. Never felt I could afford a king size natural latex mattress, but in this size it's reasonably priced.

The room underneath is perfect for storage, easier access than just using a cot as I'd planned originally.

I tried that, but then I couldn't tell where my dirty socks were.
