Most of the expensive stuff is still in good working order, but I discovered that the black and grey water holding tanks are both cracked. Not just a little bit cracked, but major cracks. So I started working out how I could use the PVC pipe holding tank Idea that I have seen others on the forum use. I have a plan to use 6" PVC pipe for both tanks to get a respectable size tank. And as luck would have it, I discovered a seller on Craigslist that had 12' lengths of 6" pipe for $10 each. 8)

That is what I'm planning on doing with 6" PVC slung under the trailer close to the axles. Figure on using the small hole expanded metal I already have for a rock guard. It won't catch dirt or trash but will deflect rocks that are kicked up by my tires.
Dadgum it! I cut that board 5 times and it's still too short!

It's finally here. I went down to southern Georgia Thursday to pick up my new trailer from the manufacturer. Here are a few photos of the beast. I will post more pics as I progress through the build.

Jeff:

That trailer is a beast. What is the dry weight and what is the GVWR on that trailer?

BC Explorer, The dry weight is just over 3100 lbs, with a GVRW of 7500 lbs. It is wide enough to haul a car, but I did not get the heavy duty axles. I don't plan to haul any cars. This will be strictly a camping trailer for me, my wife, and three kids.

I took all of the plywood off of the walls yesterday. Found plenty of areas that need to be sealed from water intrusion, and like many others, I found that the wiring through the metal panels needs to be addressed. Most of the manufacturers apparently do not care to go through the extra cost of using anything to protect the wires from chafing against the metal. It is a wonder that any of the trailers on the roads have working lights. However, I am pleased with the overall quality of the trailer. It is very solid, and will be a great base for our camper.

Took vacation this week and started on the conversion. So far we have insulated, wired, built the bathroom wall, and put in the windows. As usual, I have over underestimated how long it would take to do all of that. Still it is a joy to build something and know it will be better than what you could buy. I hope to get the bed platforms built, the plumbing done, and the converter put in before I have to go back to work. If I get all that done before Monday, I will be amazed. Here are some pictures of the progress so far.903669036590364

My son is shopping for a 8,5 x 22 - 24. I shall be watching your build to show/relay him ideas for planning.
