And I can't find the web page I visited that talked about the "fix" not fixing anything. Or the lack off service.
LG has 3-5 days before I'll hear more. I've already mentioned to HD that they may need to assist me. Only to be told they have the same issues.

Bummer! You don't need a fire... An inline fuse fixes it? LOL... sounds like they are really addressing the root cause there! :? :?

Its sort of mine!

Postby Padilen » Tue May 30, 2017 5:19 pm

Yep, the site I found the other day was all the complaints with the repair.
So I'm either going to do a window AC hack or see if I can get a deal on a dual hose maybe with heat.
Neither is ideal, window would be outside like shadow catchers. And involve lifting/carrying. Dual hose will take funds I don't have and the money set aside again for a good Gen.
Maybe I won't need AC this summer, so far we can't warm up!
Just did a check - looks like 2 hose are all much larger units. Smallest I saw was like 11,500btu.

Hey Padilen,
Why don't you shoot me the Model and Ser. #s and I'll try find something for you. I'm with those other guy's, I used to do warranty work for LG. But like I said I'm not impressed with their products and every step of the process was like pulling teeth. When I need to collect a bill locally, I just show up at your work and use my deep loud voice to announce we're about to have a problem.... Get paid right there. The accounts payable dept at LG speak a lot of languages, but mine isn't one of them. If I ever go to California again (no way in Hell) I guess I can drop by their office and start hauling away furniture until I feel like we are even.
Anyways, get me the model and ser. #'s and I'll look into it. No promises, but I'll try.

Thanks McDave,
Please refer to Service Bulletin No. DGZ201600147 for repair. Please list authorization code 6PAC1225 when filing claim in the “ASC Remark” field.

Model Number: LP0814WNR

Serial Number : 312CYGW06215

Purchase date : 01/28/2015

After a few days & 6 phone calls this already seems like to much hassle over a 200$ AC. Almost

If you just knew the problem they are trying to solve and the scoop on the line fuse.. probably could fix yourself easier... of course, then you accept the liability. :-(

Its sort of mine!

Don, if I understood it, they don't have a fix for the bad parts. Just a "safety", a inline fuse. But I can't even find that web page that had the stories.
I'm running out of Data so I may have to run into library, to continue looking.
Scratch that looked today and my first result was it.
This was the closest thing to what it is I've found.

I had three of these A/C units “repaired” on 12 March, 2017 by a technician from Pegsat Communications LLC, in Texas, I live in Washington State. For a couple months LG was trying to find a repair place near me to fix the A/C units but couldn’t. Then one day I got a call from a guy saying he could be there the following weekend. He showed up, did the repair work by installing an in-line fuse between the Compressor & Pump Motor to a Relay. After his work, he tested the A/C Units by turning them on and quickly turning them off as soon as they started to run, which wasn’t testing the Air Conditioning mode, just making sure the unit turned on.
I re-installed one of the units in a bedroom for the coming summer and tested it, ran the thermostat down to 62 and the compressor wouldn’t come on. Tried the next unit and the compressor wouldn’t come on. Called my daughter to try hers which was one of the three repaired and the compressor wouldn’t come on.
When the repair was done, I watched closely to what the repair dude did so I opened up one of the units, took out the in-line fuse he installed, connected the wires back to the original configuration and the compressor now works. I am an Aviation Electrician by trade so I metered the in-line fuses and they are bad. Now I have to get a hold of LG again and find out what they are going to do about it.
We never had any problems with these A/C’s and have used them for three summers now. I do feel that keeping the filters clean (as we do because of my COPD) and keeping the exhaust tube/window screen clear is a major factor in these units running correctly and not over-heating. So, I’m removing the in-line fuses on the units and I am going to use them as we always have until LG “repairs them correctly”. I’ll let you know what happens.

Not good. Sounds like they break them so they are sure they will have no fire liability. ;-)

Super excited I received a call back and the "FiX" is scheduled for Monday.
He will install the fuse but told me it the splash pump that's the faulty part.

That's what he called it, or maybe he said spray pump. I was outside at my mom TT and very windy and poor service. Im guessing it's so the moisture in the condensation tank mixes with the exhaust air. I was going to ask you and McDave if it can just be disconnected, since I have it connected to a drain.

Um, well how do you have it hooked to a drain? Says it is tankless, so yea the pump would be to splash condensate over condenser and remove it by evaporation. Seems pretty kludgy. I can just imagine what kind of Funk starts to breed in that hose. Ick. No Thanks.

Its sort of mine!

Postby Padilen » Thu Jun 01, 2017 6:21 am

There is a tank and it has a drain. It even has an indicator light for the tank if it's full. So it's a contradiction. Mine was an open box at HD, and the drain cap is was what was damaged. Hooking a hose up to the threaded nipple is difficult because the nipple had flat spots on its sides. IV read on here(?) of struggles with finding a hose/fittings that work. Because mine would leak after bumping my AC and wanting to conceal the hard start capacitor is why I was making a stand. The drain line would be easier to connect and see if it dripped. Inside I could mount the capacitor & just extend wires into AC.

McDave,
Since I don't need the spray, do you think it can be disconnected completely?

On the window unit I have, the condensor cooling fan just slings the water on the coils. Must be a more sophisticated approach in the portables. I have never opened one of those up.

I am draining the water before it can sling it because I hate that sound and don't want overflow inside.. It may make it slightly less efficient is my guess as I am sure the water helps the condensor coils shed some heat... but in a dry environment there may be little to no condensation.. so they do operate without it, but the load may be different.

It is a good question in any case.. one way to find out.. don't want to run it the way it is and otherwise it is a boat anchor. I'd be inclined to bypass it if indeed that it the purpose and the root cause for the hazzard potential. I'd have to get my hands on it to be sure however. Do want to burn down the CTC.

Don,
I will definitely be asking tech when he gets here, if it's possible to disconnect. But I'd actually like to confirm it is possible or not first.
