It's pretty easy to set up. The bag unzips wnd the canvas unrolls, side poles extend from the one fixed side into the outer plate. Then the poles swing down from the outer plate, I do have a small site step stole if I really need it

how do the legs hold up in windy conditions? Can you keep it up right in windy conditions without stakes into the grounds?

Looking to retrofit an awning so I don't have to lug around my instant canopy and was hoping for something really sturdy if it happens to be windy out and cannot stake into the ground.

Awnings and wind don't normally play well together and it's generally best to
put the awning away until the wind moves to the next town/county/State,
depending on your location. If you do some looking around on some different RV
sites you'll see where the general trend is to stow the awning anytime no one
will be around or over night.

Hey there Hank!

Thank you for the warm welcome. I should really get into the new members area an introduce myself with the CTC project I will be working on.

Appreciate the info about the awning. With your info I guess its a easy decision now to keep my impact canopy for our outings at the track. We stay a few nights at the track and need some sort of shade and rain protection for our bikes. I guess we'll stick to our instant canopy.

Wasn't my intent to dissuade you from going with an awning ... far from it.
Was only attempting to point out where some get forgetful/distracted and end
up with a mess to clean-up and an unwanted repair to do. Awnings are great,
but one needs to keep their 'common sense' engaged and enjoy the time they have.

Hey cbrkp ,
I 2nd everything Hank said. The roll up awnings are great, and not cheap. But they are giant sails when the wind comes up and not friendly to your trailer when they break loose and head for Texas. They can do damage to neighbours, livestock and vehicles as well and are tough to wrangle down, once loose. You just have to put them away when camp is vacated. Everytime. Or you will regret it. On the plus side, the EZup canopies are affordable, but still need to be secured or the same fate awaits. I have had the same one for 20 yrs and it takes it's annual beating in stride now, bailing wire, duct tape, splints and splices have reinforced it, and additional guide ropes and stakes keep it anchored at all times. I put it up once, take down once. If (when) it gets bent, I repair it and move on. The older it gets, the less the wind cares for it. Wind likes to destroy new, pretty things, like Mobile Home Parks, or new hats, or Mom's hairdoo..... or trailers with expensive awnings left unattended or the interior of a new truck with the window left down.

I can make no negative comments on what others have said about the awnings. Their warnings can ring very true. But to re-enforce the advice of being careful, if you are, then awnings play a very desireable role in enjoying your campsite. I have had many trailers with awnings and I have a Sunsetter one on my house deck. I am careful with them, never leave then unattended and therefore am enjoying long use with them.
