Oh wow. That looks like it hurt!

Typically if I have to cross something questionable like that I will get off the bike and walk it first.

How's you summer gone this year? Hope you got in some great rides!

Yep, I did pretty good. Sturgis and Red lodge rallies went real good, and I was able to take in a few poker runs as well. I had a full plate of construction and mechanical repairs to deal with this year so free time was limited. It appears that summer is over as it is 42f currently and may snow this week. It may warm up again, but the days are getting short. Time to get ready to hunker down for a while. Take lots of pics of the warm weather and post them for us. It helps when we are snow bound.
Thanx!

Ordered the 300W of Solar Panels and a Separate Controller (for redundancy and efficiency) to fill up the last bit of real estate on the roof. Will give me 800W total so I can run the AC completely off solar if I want, or any other major electrical appliances. Will be heading out to Sturgis next year and then on to the West for some longer term boondocking , so preparing now for that.

I am going to make an installation video and provide some details on my overall Solar and electrical installation. Hopefully it will be be a help to others.

flboy, Howdy;

Welcome back Globetrotter.

Creating your own layer of 'CT Sun Block' sounds like a winner. Looking forward to being thoroughly
confused by the electrical stuff as I always am. but I'm sure it will be a huge help to those that can
understand that stuff.

Thanks Hank. It is good to be home. Yes, definitely will have the roof shaded now. 800W seems like alot, but those panels keep getting cheaper. $89 for 100w is so cheap compared to even a few years ago. In my case, honestly, I could do without, but I just like the idea of running the AC completely off Solar during the daylight with some extra capacity to keep the batteries topped off. Also will have a 38% faster recovery time too.

Just the nerd in me I suppose.

Glad to hear you're home and safe, Don!

We'll look forward to watching you add the additional solar. We have no solar now, but think we'd like to add it. I'm with Hank, though. I find it pretty confusing.

You're going to love that Sturgis/Black Hills area when you get there. We sure enjoyed it this past summer!

Hey Don,
I must have misunderstood your plan to go west. I thought you were going to do the old school backpack/puptent/sleeping bag style and leave the CTC at home. Why would ya? Some kind of personal challenge to prove you are still a young Lion,... No thanks! So this makes a lot more sense to me now.
Anywhooo, If you know definite dates you will be in the black hills area I highly recommend camping at Custer State Park for awhile and you can make reservations 1 year in advance. Its a great place to base from and then ride to the other attractions in the area. You will have some full days of riding and possibly some late nights depending on your entertainment choices and weather etc. but that is all part of the adventure. I trailered the Harley from Montana and still put on over 600 miles between Custer, Black Hills and Sturgis. Other state parks in South Dakota can make reservations 90 days in advance. There are lots of KOA's and similar type facilities also, not sure about BLM in S.D. but there is a lot in Montana. You may also want to look into the Hewlitt/Sundance/Aladin Wyoming areas. Pretty damn nice there also. The "Badlands" area is too cool to miss if you are in S.D.. I know this sounds like a lot and it is. But how many chances are you gonna get to see this part of the country?
Here is the link to Custer State Park. https://gfp.sd.gov/csp-campgrounds/?gcl ... fcqavd_bwe
Sturgis Rally is a week later than usual this year. The first Friday of Aug. is the 7th and it runs through the 16th. This is the 80th year so the crowds may be a bit more than last year. Let me know if you need any help and when you think you'll be there. I'll try to make reservations to be there then.
Coast to Coast with a trailer and a scoot.... Trip of a lifetime. Get off the Interstates and see the real America. You are gonna love it!

McDave... good to hear from you. I do have the motorcycle (TransAmerica Trail) plan with my brother. That is all motorcycle and tent. It is a 30 day trip... We were suppose to do that this year and it didn't work out with time off for both of us, so we did the trip from NC to NY (1100 miles on Mid Atlantic Backroad Dual Sport Route "MABDR" ) instead but no camping.... met the wives at night as they drove the "chase truck". Sturgis is planned for 2020 with my two brothers.. so the dual sport trip may have to be in 2021 now as there is only a small window of opportunity when some of the high mountain passes are open and I want to start that run in a June timeframe.

Traveling out West and Boondocking is what I really built this CTC for... Going to Sturgis in any case in 2020 with it ... just trying to decide if I should just retire from work prior and take a year off boondocking (launching out after and from Sturgis) and checking some things off the bucket list before I find a "semi retired" type of part time job where I have a lot less stress and have more time off to camp and do the things I like. Been going 100+ miles an hour for many years raising a family, putting kids through college, and paying more than my fair share of taxes, so I and want to slow down now. Getting tired of the rat race that I do not have to run anymore if I do not want to.

When time gets closer ,I'd like to figure out a meet up at Sturgis. It would be nice to meet you. Whether I launch out after depends on my decision to quit work. Honestly the thought scares me some given the security I have grown use to. I was going to do it last year and changed my mind. Only 56 now so I wrestle with "am I doing the right thing now".... but no guarantees of tomorrow and I am not getting younger.

Take care McDave and thanks for the info.

Don,
Do it now while you can, if you can.
Hope you have your retirement mostly arranged.

It gets more difficult to manage the time to go later, it seems.
Or, then again, you can end up with medical situations that
keep you from it later.

I'm not much older, if any but I would say I've been semi retired for quite some time now. Never worked so hard in my life! Good Lord does it ever end? It's 24/7 around here. I mean it's all Dave, all night. Just wears a man down to the nubs, then kicks him in the throat with a cast iron boot. But the boss ain't hard to look at and the animals seem to like me, so there's that. I'm sure yours will work out just fine too. You could try being self employed if you have too much money. Talk about payin some taxes... it's fun. Jump right in, the waters fine. Oh yeah, and there's Jameson. What could go wrong? 8)

Just kidding. I have been blessed in more ways than I ever deserved and I cherish my wife. And my cat. And Jameson.

Well, the dinette cushions are re-done. They now have black canvas covers instead of the original yellow, gray, black, and white stripes, and the back cushions have been reduced to two inches thick instead of four. Four inches is not needed on the backs and the extra two inches in the booth seat makes it much more comfortable.

The additional 300W of solar panels I previously mentioned will be installed this weekend and I am making some mods to the tow vehicle (2011 F150) .

Never done!
