Thanks guys! Yes, it is a nice place. Cooked some juicy Ribeye Steaks, Asparagus, and baked potatoes on the grill for dinner. The stars are out tonight, the campfire is blazing... life just doesn't get much better. Very thankful for a great day! :thumbsup: :thumbsup:

Close call.
Almost had to back up down a narrow loop. Just had inches to spare!

Wow that was close. Was that on the way in , did you have to come back through there? Glad you had no damage.

Hi Dan. It was on a particular loop I drove around checking for a good site. I would have had to back the trailer up a good ways on a narrow loop to get out otherwise. I had some spotters as I went under. I thought I could make it if I was centered and looked out for the ladder. I only had to remove one bolt and swing in an antenna mount on door side to clear. Much easier than backing up. If I go back, I will walk that loop to see what's available. Once I am in a site, I can pull out and go out the way came in. This day there wasn't even a spot on that loop available to back into. It is the most desirable loop, so it goes first.

flboy, Howdy;

You can pack a compressor an then let some air out of the tires and top'em
off when you are clear. Had to do that with a big truck & trailer once. The folks
were absolutely certain a truck would get in and out had been done dozens of times.
Well they forgot the roadway had been repaved, effectively "lowering the bridge". :( , :lol:

Hi Hank. I thought about that. Also thought that if I had to back it up that far on a tight loop, that I may try to find the best place to "jack knife" the trailer and then disconnect the TV and then hookup again with truck pointing the way I need to go. Even that would have been tight.. but maybe doable. Glad I did not have to do either. :thumbsup: :thumbsup:

100 skate board bearings, 100 bolts and 100 nylon locking nuts (probably won't use them all but they were relatively cheap this way) arrived. Picking up aluminum angle stock and two sheets of plywood this weekend. Starting the next project for the Tow Vehicle to improve the camping experience. Will get a start on it this weekend. Thought about it for a while, don't know if it will work, but gonna try as I want this for the Sturgis trip this summer and I am too cheap to pay ~$1,200 for the commercially available ones since I plan to have less than $150 in this project. Pics to come.

Don’t forget to put in some rubber, carpet, foam, padding of some type in the drawers. They get loaded full of stuff and the bouncing of tools gets loud and damages stuff stored inside also

Thanks for the info Hank and BigDave. Yes, I have a hard tonneau cover and it is very hard to get at anything up front. I am building a bed slide so I can just pull it out for access instead of releasing the top cover and still having to crawl in to access the last 1/3 of the bed where the tonneau cover folds up to.

I will probably build drawers later, but the first thing is just to be able to access tool boxes , spare propane bottle, and plastic totes bins I load with various things I want with me on the road. When the truck bed storage is more convenient and better organized , I'll also be able to free up some storage space in the CTC where I have tools and etc..

So this is my thought. I will build 3 6.5 ft roller bearing rails and space them evenly with one in the middle and one on each side of a 1/2 thick piece of plywood cut to fit the length of the truck bed (6.5 ft.)and in between wheel wells (4ft). Then take another piece of plywood cut the same size and build the guides which will serve to strengthen the plywood and make sure the plywood stays in line when rolling out. Then I will take 1*2s and frame the top piece to put a lip on it and then just screw on two pull handles and build some stops to keep it from sliding out too far. Also will secure bottom piece with turnbuckles to the built in tie downs in the corners of the truck bed in case I want to remove it quickly to haul a motorcycle or etc..This only gives up about 2 inches of the inside height in the bed taking into account the bottom and top 1/2 inch plywood pieces and the roller bearing rail height. You think it will work? :thinking: :thinking:

Just built a small prototype of the rail and guide to get an idea of the fit.I Still have to decide the bearing spacing. I have 33 per rail available.. thinking maybe put one every 3 inches so maybe 26 a rail. The more, the better it will distribute weight, I suppose. I think with that many bearings it will slide out real easy given what I typically carry and be relatively sturdy. I also plan on sealing the plywood with Thompson's Water seal. I don't care about a color, just don't want any water swelling the wood if water gets in. It stays reasonable dry back there with the hard cover anyhow, but it can get a few drops in going down the highway with a lot of rain.

Roller design looks good. Not sure if you even need the top angle pieces. I am wondering if the top angle pieces might hang up due to play. Can’t hurt to try! :thumbsup:

I look forward to viewing your progress.

My quick and dirty method is to carry a wooden broom handle with a hook attached to the end of the handle that enables me to reach into the bed and drag things back to me. I like your idea better.
