.. The 12VDC should never be cutoff before the solar inputs are opened up ( or after sunset), and you never want to run appliances directly from the charger output without the battery also on line which is what would happen if the battery cutoff or breaker was pulled the way I had it.

Very glad to know this ... thanks!

I think I am getting lazy. I just picked up an electric trailer jack for the CTC. :-) I'll install it next weekend when I get back from Dallas. Going to meet my second grandson who was born last week. :-)

Alright Grandpa,
I'm not gonna worry about you till I see you headin' for Walmart, wearing your slippers, looking for a light sweater you can wear to the mall. And for naps. Just kidding, I'm already a little worried.
Funny thing though, I wanted to hitch up and move the trailer so I could move some vehicles around and get the '57 out for the parade tomorrow. When I had it all lined up and went to let it down on the ball, I grabbed the handle and started to crank, and......the handle flew off, and I punched the generator. Laid my knuckles open. Almost punched it again.
Sooo,...That's a nice power jack head you got there. I might look into one of those.

Don,
I received the hard start capacitor. It's physical size is larger than any space in my AC. Do you think adding more wire- length and mounting it outside the cover would be ok?

@ Padelin,
It would sure be best to keep that cap inside the AC cover somewhere. Remember to be careful when working around capacitors. It is possible that they will hold a charge, a BIG one, and deliver it all at once to you. Ask me how I know....
If you can not find a place inside, you'll have to keep it well covered and out of weather, and safe so nobody can get shocked.

McDave

PS. Why do you need a hard start?
If AC has a marginal compressor, capacitor may be the right answer.
If you have power delivery problems, those should be addressed at source.
Seriously.

McDave,
It's just to see if my little Gen can run my AC. I'm still trying to save money for the Gen I want, but my medical co pay is eating up my extra money.

Hi Padilen. Be careful and connect it up per instructuons and tape aside with covers off and first just see if it helps the start for the generator. If it does not boost enough to start with then Gen, then take it out and call it a day. If it helps, then you will need to extend the wires and find a way to fit it inside the AC in a way to keep it out of the weather. You do not want that in direct weather.

You are working with 110vac and that can hurt you.
If you are not experienced with that, get some local help to install and to make sure it is buttoned up proper assuming it works as intended. The cap can retain a charge for a period of time so observe all precautions even with power removed.

I am traveling so sorry for the slow response.

Don, after my camping this past weekend, I got frustrated with my hand crank jack and said I was definitely going to get a power jack like yours. What kind did you decide on? Did you do any research to decide on one or another? This one from Husky has my attention at the momemt. It is not the cheapest, but I like the ball bearings in the worm gear area. They are supposed to make it smoother and quieter.

Padilen, if it does the job, let me know. I'll check with Supco to see how weather tight that cap is as it is. Some folks just mount them inside the unit, but not inside the sealed area with the circuit card and existing capacitor. It does have the black top over the relay and etc. as you can see..

@lrrowe, this is what I ordered. It is a cheap one so I don't know how well it will be in the long haul. I didn't do much research. It was more of a spontaneous buy. I do have a cover for it that goes on for storage to keep weather off it.

Hmmmmm, about 2 1/2 times less the Husky model I was considering. This is something to mull over. Thanks.

I'll install mine next Monday and let you know what I think. It had decent reviews, but I don't know about longevity.
