Got the emergency power circuits transfer switch wired in to run the fridge, some lights, window AC, and internet routers and miscellaneous outlets with my Honda Generator. The generator can now pull double duty through the existing house wiring and isolated from line power in case it comes back on.

May need this tomorrow. Finally motivated to install.

That a boy. Nice clean permanent install. Seems this may be a re-occurring deal for your area. Those shutters look sturdy and quick to deploy. I wonder if there would be a landscape feature such as a knee wall that could protect from the surge. I notice your altitude is like 25 ft? A couple of extra ft. and a small sump pump might be all you need to stay high and dry. Something to think about for the next time. Hang in there.

Thanks. They stack very well in the garage. I have them labeled so with two people it takes about 30 minutes to pop them in the track and wing nut them down. I can do it in about 45 minutes by myself if I had to. Aside from the wind and flying debris protection, they keep wind from driving in rain around window seals and getting the walls wet inside. I put them up anytime we have threat of a tropical storm or greater. They are worth it. You'd be suprise how much water sustained 50mph or greater winds can drive through even well sealed windows. It is just hours of constant wind and the water finds a way around.

Made a plenum for the Honda so now I can run it in the garage during the hurricane and feed emergency circuits when power does go off.

I used some foam I saved from the seat cushions in the CTC and covered it with the aluminum duct tape. It gives enough to form a good seal when the generator butts up to it. Seems to work great.

Great design, especially the foam idea. I would like to find a vent like that ...do you have a link or buzz words I could google? Thank you.

The vent and Vent hose is for a Dryer. You can gt them at any Lowes or Home Depot. The attachment that goes into the plenum is just a 4in duct attachment. You get them at Home Depot or Lowes also.

flboy, Howdy;

Beautiful idea and execution for keeping an already quiet genny quiet and pass the exhaust
outdoors. Ya might want to consider a CO alarm for both the garage and the CT, no tellin'
what your next set of camping neighbors are doing with their exhaust if ya boondock at
a Walmart or some rest area.

hank

PS, Lookin' like y'all got the clean end of the dip-stick.

The Generator pulls a ton of air for it's forced air cooling. It brings a lot of fresh air into the garage as it is pushing so much out, so no concerns about CO2 there ( I do not smell any exhaust in the garage either after running a while)... however, never thought about the boon-docking and neighbors. I do have a Co2/Smoke detector in the CTC.

Yes, of course the storm is not here yet and we will have some sever weather due to the shear size of the storm, however, we did get another pass! At least we will have our homes in tact. I feel so bad for the folks on the west coast... a few days ago, that looked like it would be us here. It is going to be bad. :-(

I bet your brother is relieved also!

This is the auxiliary gas tank I built for the Honda I use when summer boondocking with the CTC and expect to run the generator overnight and most of the day for the air conditioner. With the gallon already in the generator tank and the extra 5 gallons, it will run well over 30 hours straight.

The draw from the generator tank siphons from the auxiliary tank which vents. The really nice thing about this setup also, is that you fill the auxiliary tank and do not need to shut the generator down to do it

I have it ready for when power goes out sometime tomorrow. I am expecting that as all it takes around here are a few tree branches hitting the high tension wires and the grid goes down.

Lost power about an hour ago. Glad I took the time to wire in the transfer switch so I have power. This storm is huge. I can't believe the effects we are having with it so far away still.

Still have internet. Not sure how long that will be the case.
