flboy, Howdy;

As usual, you've done a fantastic job of not only doin' the job-at-hand, but documenting it as well.
Now for my question ... What kind of corrosion / road hazard protection are you doing for this mod ?

Don't want to appear that I'm being picky but others have to deal with Road Salt and other Winter chemicals
and I think your ideas and thoughts would lend weight to their attempts to replicate your modification.

Thanks Hank. No salt to deal with, but lots of road film. I used silicone grease on the connector and painted the ground to frame connection in the rear with Rust Oleum spray paint. On the relay, I used the red battery terminal spray protectant as well as on the battery terminal connection itself..

Is that okay? Any suggestions?

flboy, Howdy;

I'd go into overkill, chuckle, probable use some liquid rubber electrical tape,
something like this; https://www.amazon.com/Gardner-Bender-0 ... B000FPAN2K
to brush on the terminals. Stuff like that will keep ya from havin' to crawl
under there on a periodic basis to 'touch-er up' .You may not have salt on the
roads but you get yours in the atmosphere. Then there's all that rain y'all get
... slashes up into the frame something awful. I am what could be called a "belt
& suspenders" type , 1 form of protection good but 2 is always better, for me.
But, if you're content with what ya got , then who am I to tell ya different???

That is a good idea Hank. Thanks.

Lots of Salt today. My view from room balcony on my way over to Freeport and Nassau to go Scuba diving this week. Oh.. and take my wife,Mother in Law, and Sister in Law on a cruise. They go shopping in Port, I go diving.. all is well. :-)

Weather is not perfect, but it is the dead of winter and I hear quite frigid in the northern latitudes. I brought my 5mil wet-suit this time as I am expecting cooler water.

I am going to wire up the CTC side of this Tow Vehicle (TV) auxiliary charging circuit on Friday when I return. Will use the liquid black tape. I have used that elsewhere on the CTC and on my HAM radio gear. Good stuff.

Back home. Will be wiring up the CTC this weekend with a charge connector to mate with the TV. I will post up some pics of that when I get it done.

Here's a short video of some reef sharks checking me out on my second dive of the day yesterday in Freeport in about 50 ft. of water. Always a shot of adrenaline when they slip up on you!

That wasn't a tag. It appeared to be an injury. It looked almost like a spear hole. Maybe got too close to a diver who was spearfishing?

Got the trailer side connector and cable installed today. It is a 6ga cable going to the 12VDC Buss bar in the Electrical cabinet with ground terminated on the frame. I am using an 80A DC Breaker on the CTC side to protect the wiring. Will test it all out next time I connect up the truck. I'll make sure the batteries need some charge and I will disconnect the solar inputs so I can see what the alternator does (max current).

I am thinking of getting a Hall Effect Ammeter (no shunt required) to put in the pickup so I can see how much current is being drawn when charging. I like to monitor the charging and this is one way to do it while driving. I'd wire it to be powered on when the relay is on.

I also hooked up the control wire to the switch today after I finally received the right "add a circuit" fuse box wire from Amazon. I am using the delayed accessory circuit which only comes on (+12.5VDC) with the ignition. The switch has a blue halo light when on. Mounted next to the trailer brake controller so it is out of the way but easily accessible.

I can see I need snap the Cig Lighter socket back in. I think I broke a retaining tab as it keeps wanting to pop out.

Thanks Martin. So good to hear from you! I hope all is well for you. Been enjoying your CTC I hope!

I am heading to Daytona for Bike Week at the beginning of March with the CTC (just 80 miles up the road for me). We have a spot rented behind the Daytona Speedway so it will be urban camping with hookups and riding around Daytona in a sea of Motorcycles. Looking forward to that. Just put some new tires on the Kingpin... will have precious cargo with me on the back else I'd probably squeezed a few more miles out of them. :-)

Things are going better now, got kinda crazy for about 9 months or so. The wife started having seizures out of the blue and it took several months to get a correct diagnosis. We ended up having to take her to see a specialist it Atlanta, she's better overall but still has some rough days. She's been out of work since Oct. 2017 and she is now on full disability. Then I lost my father this past June at 91 years old and in great health overall.
Yes we've been getting some use out of the CTC when possible and if all goes well we will get alot more use out of it this year. We traded the wifes Honda Civic in this past November and bought a new to us tow vehicle. We bought a 2015 F150 XLT 4WD 5.0L crew cab with the heavy payload, heavy tow package w/ 25,000 miles on it. You might remember the truck I had was struggling to pull the CTC. Well the F150 has no problem pulling it so we'll be able to get further away from home now.

I"ll be around some so I'll stay in touch.

Martin, glad to hear things are settling down for you and your wife. The truck sounds nice. I basically have the same tow configuration except mine is a 2011 and an Extended Cab. I have about 70K miles on it now. It is a great truck. Pulled my CTC all over the Blue Ridge mountains on some steep grades. Only issue I had was when I got stuck behind a semi truck struggling at less than 10mph up a steep grade, and then my transmission temp started to climb. I was not getting enough air across the cooler, I believe. I pulled off at a lookout area and let the truck have some room and then I proceeded at speed with no problems.

Keep in touch for sure.
