Converting Cargo Trailers into TTTs

Thanks Hank. Get to break out next week on Wednesday.

I know this looks like a bomb, but it is not. It is a 25aH LifeP04 battery bank I just built that I need to package in an ammo can with a few USB ports and outlets. Will be like the Yeti or Jackery with display when done.

I'll use it to run HAM radios in the field and will be a backup system in the CTC for lights and small 12vdc appliances. Can charge with portable 100W panel.

Running a capacity test to make sure the batteries are indeed 25aH before I package this up. Running a 60W light bulb through a 300W inverter as a load. Will run it until the BMS shuts it down and then I should know. (edit.. got 23.7aH out of them before BMS shut down... not bad for AliExpress.. close enough) .

LOL Not in business.... took 90days just to get these 25aH cells after ordered from China. I just got word from FedX they picked up my 280aH batteries in port and hopefully they should be here next week.

Just having some fun building stuff I can use and spending less and getting better than store bought... kinda the same reason I built the CTC.. You know exactly what I am talking about.

Also got in some LiFePo4 battery cells to make a 12vdc 25aH cell to make a small solar generator to run my Amatuer Radios in an emergency ( or etc.) . Will charge with portable 100w solar panel. The solar generator will have capacity similar to the Yeti and Jackery but cost about a third. Will also have a 300W pure sinewave output. Going to make a video on the build.

If your not selling them perhaps your video can be a "how-to" video....... really cool!

Sorry that you got the C19 crud, but glad you all have only got light cases.

That is a cool little battery pack. Makes me want to build one, but I have no clue what I would use it for. It just looks fun to build.

I hear you on the time to get your cells from China. I ordered my 280ah cells on Jan 22. The just got here a week ago. Unfortunately I haven't had time to get them fully set up yet, and probably won't for a bit a we have a family visit planned. I am looking forward to your main battery build.

Thanks Cindy. I expect my 280aH cells early next week..FedX has them and they are on the way from California now.

The 25aH project was fun, buy I do have plans for them. Make sure to top balance your new cells first thing. That is important.

Good luck.

I just have to get eyelets for the cable connections in each corner when I can bust quarantine next week.

I will be transferring plywood and trim from existing bed, but the hard part for me is done. This is so light compared to wood. The lift is going to have it easy!

What thickness material did you end up with?

It is 2 X 1 X 16 GA (.065 wall) A513 Rectangle Steel Tube. It seems plenty strong for this purpose. Hopefully will get the bed installed next week. I still have to figure out how I want to mount the drop down drawer. I will do that tomorrow... I haver a few ideas.

I’d think the piano hing and some self tappers screws on the one side? Or you could tack weld that hinge onto the frame and then attach boxes

Yes. Top balancing and everything else associated with getting the new cells up and going is why I don't have time to get my new battery together yet. I won't start until I have time to get it all done.

I plan on putting the cells in their 4s configuration with BMS, and strapped together under pressure first to charge them most of the way up with the BMS and my solar charge controller. So I will have to configure the BMS and check the temperature cutoff. Then configure my controller for lithium.

Actually the BMS should be good to go for the first charge, but I plan on changing the conf after balanced to reduce the high and low percentages for regular use.

After its initial charge, I will take the cells back apart and put them strapped together in parallel to top balance them with a lab power supply. That may take awhile. Then when done I will put the cells back in series and into their case, and mount them into place with all of their connections.

It is still cold here. We were 18deg yesterday morning. I don't know that I am ready to trust the bms with low temps yet, and I don't want to leave a space heater on in the CT while I am gone. So that is the second reason I am not starting yet. My immediate next project is to set up a small battery heat pad for my cells.

This is pretty new to me am I missing any steps?

Cindy, sounds like you got it covered and clearly understand what is required. Good luck with yours. I should be building my 280aH cell next week. FedX tracking shows I should have them by Monday or Tuesday. I ordered them ~Jan. 20.

I think it will mount the same. I just have to weld in 2 inch spacers (leftover 1*2 tube ) to offset the depth and for a place to mount hinge bolts, then I can cut some plywood facia to cover the exposed area.

This is how it looks so far. Just have to cut the spacers down some and weld them in.. Should work.
