Big difference between rear factory stops and the Timbren SES. Anxious to load the trailer up and see how they work.

I haven’t been on for a while,,glad your road trip turned out great!! It was a good read :)

The pup looks amazing

I greatly support the new truck purchase. No better peace of mind then knowing your not pushing something to the limits with the basics like your trailer

Someone said the goose neck hinders your bed storage. I agree but... your new trailer will have lots of room for tool storage under the top deck area of just aft of your bumper.

I love our goose neck trailers for pulling. So smooth. Travel so much better.

These guys are local to me

https://www.logancoach.com/

They do custom builds or standard. Amazing craftsmanship in the horse trailer industry

Again glad the trip was a success and if your headed west look me up. Moab is a blast to ride

Thanks BigDave. I appreciate the info. Yes, the F150 could pull it just fine with the 5.0L and 3.73 rear end. But the cargo limit on my particular F150 as equipped was 1356 lbs. When transferring 900 to 1000 from trailer to hitch, that doesn't leave much for passengers and etc. in the pickup bed. The F250 load is 3516 lbs. Well over 2,000 lbs. more than my F150. I won't be close to touching that.

Actually, I was more concerned about the insurance companies if there was ever an incident than I was about strain on the truck (braking in mountains was a concern however but trailer braking was not working right) . That is the first thing both sides will look at if a trailer is involved. The door sticker is all that matters to law. In any case, that is was tipped me towards buying a new truck. I really did like my F150.

I do hope to get out to Moab area next summer of all else is good.

Don, I just finished the install of new auto adjusting electric trailer brakes. I bought dexter also. I found this explanation of how to break in the new brakes. Haven't done this yet, spent the day installing the brakes and now to tired to take trailer out for a test. Will do so in a few days.

Like all new drum brakes, LCI’s Forward Self-Adjusting Brakes should be properly broken in (burnished). LCI recommends a break-in period requiring 20 to 50 brake applications. To burnish the brakes, set the brake controller’s gain to approximately midway or slightly higher (see the brake controller’s owner’s manual for directions). Tow the trailer at about 40 mph, then activate the manual button or lever on the brake controller until the combo slows to 20 or 25 mph. Using only the manual control forces the trailer’s brakes to slow down both the tow vehicle and trailer, which helps burnish the brakes quicker. Braking applications should be conducted at no less than 1-mile intervals to prevent the brake linings from overheating.

Thanks Richard. I will be installing the brakes the on the 26th or 27th just before I leave for South Carolina with the CTC. I appreciate the information. Let me know how yours worked out for you whenever you get to test them.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year if we don't talk before!

I hope you all had a Merry Christmas yesterday! 2020 is almost history!

I installed these Dexter self adjusting brakes on all 4 wheels today and drove around a bit to burnish them. Seems they self adjusted well. I can definitely feel the braking now and the drums got hot. We will see how they hold up. It was a very easy installation. It took me about 30 minutes a wheel to include soldering the brake wires.

Pulling the rig to SC next week for New Years at my Brother's hunting camp, then back for a week or two before I head out to Arizona and beyond.

Don we took a 6 hr trip up to Marianna Fl this weekend. Why we went canoeing on the coldest Christmas in 20 years I simply cannot explain. It was 27 F which is way to cold in the morning for a Florida native. We just returned and after going through all the traffic lights in Lakeland the trailer brakes really started functioning just fine. Had a nice trip just real cold. Have fun on your trip.

Thanks for the follow up. You said " started functioning just fine". Did they not function right away?

Mine aren't as strong as I'd expect yet, but I am thinking they will keep on adjusting each time I hit the brakes. I did not pre adjust them well because with drop axles, the drop really obstructs the adjustment access, but did work them a bit while I attempted to burnish them. The drums did get hot.

Pulling out in the AM for a trip to South Carolina hunt camp to spend New Years with my brothers and etc.. Just have to drop the CTC on the hitch. Happy New Years all! Will have a chance to exercise the new self adjusting brakes. I will see if they adjust up better. I think this will be the first time I have travelled without any toys in the back. Just taking it for a place to stay , shower and etc. at the hunting camp. A lot of room in there without the bike(s).

What I meant by not functioning properly was the brakes did not seem to help with stopping. I guess they kept adjusting until they were correctly adjusted and now they work just fine. We went through Lakeland which has about a zillion red lights when I am driving. So the brakes had a lot of stopping to do so they adjusted in a short time. On the return trip the wife was driving and there were only 6 red lights
Enjoy your trip.

Thanks. I thought that might be the case. I was using the manual brake controller at exits between 40mph and slowing to 20mph on my trip with trailer brakes to burnish, but mine seem to be grabbing much stronger now after some use.

Very happy so far as my brakes have not been working a for a while

Happy New Year.
