Okay, I opened up the black box and "bugged out" out the wiring on the winch remote solenoid assembly and found out that the white and yellow wires (pointing at them in pic) come from the remote receiver to activate the solenoid to switch power to the winch motor.

All I need to do is cut those wires and add the magnetic alarm switches in series. When the bed reaches a limit I set by placement of the magnet, the solenoid control will be interrupted. The opposite direction will still have power to recover as needed.

In theory it should work. Will try it out on my workbench to make sure I got it right and then install this weekend.

That's it? 4 wires in the control circuit? So is that the receiver and relays in the potted area there? Solenoid has 2 coils, 1 at each end, neutral=off? Or 2 solenoids'? yellow/white = up , red/ black = down. Well, I don't want to jinx the project, but.... I'm smellin sumpthin, and I believe it is success. I may start drinking now just in case.

Hi McDave. The 4 wires where I am pointing is the wireless receiver. The red and black wires going to it are 12vdc and ground to power it. The white and yellow wires will put out 12vdc on either one depending on up or down button pressed on remote. Those two wires drive the control coils on the winch relay which reverses the 12vdc and ground on winch. It is a permanent magnet motor so it reverses with polarity change. Actually very simple. I am just going to get the NC alarm contacts in series with the white and yellow wires to break connections in an overdrive condition.

Thanks for the idea to put in limit switches. I was not thinking that way. I was more focused on making it work and not so much on failure modes.

Yeah, OK that makes sense red/black power the receiver, either white OR yellow for up or down. See, I knew it would be simple. Nice job.
How's everybody holding up? Good I hope. Just try to keep em well fed and as much rest as possible. A little extra love wont hurt anybody as well.

Modified the Winch controller. Yellow wires hanging out are for the limit switch for going up. Decided no need for down since it cannot drop below pins and if it were to keep driving, the cables would unwind (2 full turns of capstan) and then start to pull bed back up winding the spool in opposite direction and then hit up limit. All that would take many seconds and by that time, I could hit the master off. In any case, already to hook up.

I will be painting the garage/lounge area and bed area tomorrow, making the winch wiring permanent, and adding the Drip edge to all the windows tomorrow. Most likely be a few hours of work..... I should be camping this weekend... but Covid-19 has us holed up for a while so making good use of the time.




Also made some mods to TV . Upgraded to projector/halo headlights and LED tail lights as well as installed 1/2 inch fender flares. Looks good with Raptor grill and light bar I installed a while back. The headlight lenses were getting discolored and yellowed, so I needed to do something with those anyhow. I think I am done with the bling... can get carried away with that.

Got the bed up top all painted and finished off. Still have more painting to do in Garage area, but wrapping up for the day. I got rails drilled so the bed is pinned up top and tension removed from cables.












Not where I am suppose to have the CTC parked this weekend. Could likely be another month or so before I can get off the pad.

Well lets hope for sooner rather than later. That's a beauty rig just sittin there. I got my trailer out of the frozen tundra last week and noticed a few things that need some attention. Nothing major, 1 string of LED's wont light up and another lights but wont respond to the remote. Also the adhesive for the vinyl on the ramp gave up sometime during the winter and the top half of the wall (ramp bottom half) detached and was hanging down. Don't know how long it was like that but there was considerable shrinkage, due to the temperature no doubt. Happens sometimes in the cold air. You want to keep sensitive items warm and well insulated around here in the winter, you know what I mean.... I needed to use the trailer to pick up a scoot for a friend in a town 85 miles east. I turned on some heat overnight before leaving and the vinyl had softened some but still was shrunk by 3/8" on the 3 sides that pulled free. Still too cold mess with glue etc. so I just used a staple gun and pulled it as taught as I could. We are having some nice weather now and I think if I can get it in the sun we can do something with it. Picked up one of those collector items Polaris made till recently...


It is a pretty nice scoot, but it has sat outside for a while so it needs some rehab. Luckily there is no rush as the friend who it belongs to slipped on the ice and broke his hip. 3 weeks later he fell again and broke the femur just below the hip repair. So he is getting rehab now too. And yes, he is Irish too. But his attitude is good and he is determined to make Sturgis this year. Hopefully the rally will still be on... Strange days we are living.

Thanks. That is good news! Already have paid reservations at Iron Horse Campground. I had bought a cruise from South Hampton, England to the Fjords in Norway for early May and received word last week it is cancelled. Seems all that stuff is at risk. If they cancel Sturgis.. will just take a road trip unless states are just closing highways. That is a ways off and alot can happen between now and then. Will hope for the best!

BTW, sorry to hear about door damage. Weather is hard on everything and everything takes maintenance. Take care and stay safe... maybe see you at Sturgis.

Got the bed winch wiring situated. The limit switch works when I tested it manually, but I had to order another type Alarm contact that could carry a little more current and I needed an alarm contact that is closed and opens with magnet in proximity. The alarm contacts I already had are just the opposite and the way they should be for an alarm. I'll hook up the contact when it arrives Tuesday

I any case, got the garage area painted and winch permanently situated.

Today I ordered a spare tire wheel to match the existing wheels. I needed to get some new rubber for the spare tire and I figured I'd get a matching wheel, so if I have to install the spare, I can just leave it on and use the tire I take off as a spare after repairs. The spare wheel I had was an older white spoke wheel that was rusty and the rubber was old. I want a good one for the Sturgis trip in early August.

Made a short video with details on how I built the Bed Lift System for my CTC. I hope it helps anyone trying to do something similar. There are many ways to do this, but this is how I chose to do it. It is fairly simple and seems to work very well.
