Hey my bowl leaks out app 2 qts in 2 min. Just going over things as u know. No smell what so ever but thought I would replace as a matter of PM annually. That should be the part for 22 bucks or so but that seemed a short life span of 2 yrs. Any advice forum?

Don if u r out there I may really need you here and will provide gloves. It may just need cleaned but i will need the wife to do this first but what do you think?

Very little use? :thinking:

Tommy, that seal may just be drying out a bit and getting stiff in which case it needs to be lubricated/conditioned, or it may need to be cleaned well, or both. Unless it was defective from the start, I highly doubt you wore it out.

I'd try cleaning the black rubber seal well and then get some Thetford 36663 Toilet Seal Lubricant & Conditioner and then see if that cures the leak. Mine slowly leaked out over a month or so and the seal dried out a bit. I cleaned and lubricated it up and it seems to be fine now and holds water for months.

I'll be glad to come over and replace the seal if need be however.. I'd just try cleaning and lubricating first.

Note that I think Vaseline would work.. I just do not know if long term that it would not react improperly with the rubber whereas this Thetford stuff is special purpose just for that application so no risk I suppose. Next time I do mine, however, I am going to get some silicone Plumber's Grease at Ace Hardware for ~$3.00. I am sure it will not hurt the rubber seals as that is what it is made for. That will lube and condition the seal well and probably last longer.

Check out Thetford 36663 Toilet Seal Lubricant & Conditioner ... it is about $12 on Amazon.

TommyB, Howdy;

I had to chuckle when I read about your problem. The RV forum I also haunt has
a thread about a Dometic 310 toilet. Here's a link;
http://www.keystoneforums.com/forums/sh ... ive&page=2

Several good methods, but with you hand being in the shape it is I'd opt for the solution
on pg. 2, #12.

Wow great info guys. Extra virgin anything has got to be good! :R

This crept up on me from last season. I partially filled my black tank prior to our first camp trip unknowingly as I kept filling the bowl every time I went in the CT because I thought it was evaporating! :? Don had to help me drive into town to dump half way into our stay. Major pain. Jeeze.

Thanks I got this now. 8)

Welp Ima looking at the weather and finally there is a front coming down this weekend. Don are you around?

I just noticed this fix that I did is almost one year old. And it is now leaking so I will retreat it with FLEX SEAL. The stuff never cures and is always sticky and has attracted much dirt on the sides. But it did work. When the fabric does leak the ENTIRE underside forms drops and rains down eventually. Ah well I can fix.

Always something. Wrist fusion In a few weeks and maybe that mess will be behind me to some degree.

Time to camp and ride one more time before surgery and hell again, maybe.

Sooo, as I was flushing out my black tank a pretty good leak developed between the tank top and the bottom of the deck. Not inside thank god. It must be the flange or the tank. Im on it. It is comforting ( believe it or not ) in knowing I built this and I can fix it. But why the failure? I do see evidence there of interior leakage maybe. The white stuff. But the underneath was a shower. :thinking:

Hmmmm,
When you say you were flushing the tank, is that from the dump valve or from the top side? I assume that flange I see there has a tail piece that goes through a grommet in the tank top? Could that piece come loose from the flange and drop into the tank? Does that Dometic use a wax ring or some sort of a rubber gasket?
All questions, no answers today. Sorry..

Did you get it figured out Tommy?

I am headed out of town (Philippines) Thursday A.M. for about 10 days and will be back 11/12. I can come over the weekend of 11/17 to help you sort it out if needed.

You must have had that tank filled all they way up to the neck to realize a leak there? Would be an odd case to have it that full? Glad you figured that out... but is it possible it was always that way and this is the first time to be so full?

I do not have a threaded input. My bowl flange pushes through a rubber grommet which make the seal.

You are correct Don. I just happened to add too much water while I was flushing the tank. At least it was relatively clean water and I found the leak early in the game. Also, I did of course utilize the new dump station and it is really handy. I did learn that I need to place a sand bag over the end of the hose down at the clean out end. I was very proud of the set up and called the wife out to see it in action for the first time. Watch this I said as I pulled the lever. The waste water rushed out and down the hose and then, bamm, hose jumps out of pipe, waste water everywhere but in the pipe. One of those days.

One other major concern is that step now. More than ever.

Box Step: 3 Steps, 500 lb Max Load Capacity, 28 3/4 in Overall Ht, 23 in Base Wd, 35 1/4 in Base Dp, Green

item # 527W642 $151.21 :thinking:

Might do this. Just place in side as I leave. That step will eventually hurt me bad. My knees hurt bad getting in and out as it is but its also a little shaky too with that little stand.

Any one use something like this? Portable.

Hi Tommy, another thing you might want to look at is a hottub step. They are about 28” wide and the treads are about 12” deep. I think mine was about $60 on Amazon. Plastic so you don’t need to worry about moisture and they are very stable.

PiddleFart, that name really made me lol! Yes this company does make those also. A two stepper I think. I will take a measurement and see what all fits but one thing is for sure I will get something like today or tomorrow. Thanks! :beer:
