Fiberglass vs aluminum

Postby gbowman » Tue Jan 17, 2017 9:55 pm

While searching for a trailer I came across a fiberglass enclosed trailer.
Does anyone have any thoughts on using this type trailer?
It doesn't have side wall studs.
Not sure about if it will be easier to heat and cool.
Window install should be about the same.
Fiberglass would be more resistant to minor scrapes and dings.
Would be heavier.
Thanks for your Feedback!

Welcome!

Do you have a link to the trailer so we can see it?

I haven't actually seen one, but EZDOG had one that was very interesting. Check it out.

I've considered one from Edmonton! They were more expensive. Couldn't find one in the U.S. I kept looking for a used fiberglass concession trailer for a while, but couldn't find one at the time.

This one is from Edmonton: http://www.trailersunlimited.com/Trailer-Purchase.html

A used-one of these, at the right price would be sweet: http://www.fibrecore.com/

Without wall studs, I wouldn't have a clue how to finish the interior of a fiberglass unit. I'm guessing wall studs would have to be added in order to do electrical chases, insulation and interior wall finishing. Therefore, it would be easier to finish a trailer which already had wall studs in place.

Howdy All;

It would seem to me that the roof supports would need something more substantial then the fiberglass
panels to be strong enough to do their job properly. why not swing a stud finder across to see if there
isn't some thing in there. Example, in my home (a 5th wheel RV), the walls are foam filled filon panels but
they have support studs in them at the 16"oc marks. There may be something similar within the walls of
those CTs.

A detail photo of the rafter supports hitting the walls and the wall thickness would provide more clues.
