NW Minnesota, near Grand Forks, ND.

I just looked at the quote closer. It appears that the base MSRP for the trailer was 8877.00

It shows removal and substitution of the following. The removed items were not dollar value listed, but striped price was listed as 5725.00

Ramp door removed, substitute double rear doors with double cam lock. Add 1317.00

Remove silver modular wheels and spare and substitute aluminum wheels and spare. Add 1112.00

Add 6 inches of height."............ Add 338.00

Add roof vent................ Add 106.00

Add cam bar lock to curb side door.......... Add 203.00

Add silver color instead of white............... Add 78.00

So it looks like the base MSRP was 8877.00 and they deleted 3152.00 worth of stuff. Then added the options that I wanted which worked out to adding exactly 3152.00 back on for a total custom MRSP of 8877.00 Then a show special of about 16.5 percent off which was 7395.00 plus tax 480.00 and license 75.00 came to out the door 7950.00!

Why would a different door add that much.
My friends trailer has the steel silver wheels and I like them better than my aluminum.
Still seems high. Single axle - 2 wheels = 250(highest I've seen) x2 =500. x3 =750. Tires should already be on the list price on steel rims.
Get silver steel I'll swap

My guess is that the credit for deleting the ramp door was very close to the price of the double door. It looks like the biggest add on was the 3 aluminum wheels, 2 on the trailer and 1 spare for 1100 and change. I may have to call them tomorrow and ask some questions.

low277,

Have you checked the manufacturer's web site? All of those prices seem to be very high to me.
That's almost twice what I paid for mine, A Pro series Interstate, 6X14 single axle with upgraded axle
from 3200 to 5200 pounds. I also had a cargo door latch added to the front door and an extra vent
added and still didn't pay more then $5,000.00 . There is an Interstate dealer located near you, here;

The featherlite is a very nice trailer, the dealer had a 2005 6.5x12 similar to what I wanted and was asking 5300 for it.

I am now considering a H&H trailer, anyone have any experience with these. Steel frame. Looks like I can get the same stuff for about half the cost.

All aluminum is a premium. Advantages are lighter if TV has a low tow rating. A little better corrosion resistant, for winter use. Featherlight is a more expensive base. There are a lot of good platforms to start with. But things change, what happens after spending that on one. You desire a bigger CT platform.

I think my next decision is ramp door or barn doors? My first thought was barn doors, I could build a wall just inside with one side having a AC unit and maybe a small window and the other side could have another larger window or a screen door.

Does anyone with a wall in back leave the doors/ramp open if it rains?

I've seen I nice set up for a toy hauler with barn doors. Higher ground clearance from either axle choice or axle flip. Owner fabed ramp holders underneath. Simple pull out- ramp, push in stored. This would allow an AC unit on the other door /wall.
But with a ramp you have a "deck". Or you can get a toy hauler "extend a room".

This is a similar scenario to decisions in the boat world. One style of boat can sometimes never be enough, given all the things folks use boats for; fishing, cruising, water skiing, etc. Each has its good points and bad points. This is the same with ramps vs. barn doors. One has to consider all he/she will do with it and go with that decision. Many times there is no right or wrong answer. Each has its merits and shortfalls. But once you make that decision, then just go ahead and enjoy it....don't look back.

As far as barn doors and rain...During one big storm I did close it to about 4" at the middle, the drip rail across the top then covered most of the top of the door angle, really not an issue for me.

We picked barn doors for all sorts of reasons. loading/unloading, air conditioning, versatility, We add ramps for the few times we need to load wheeled stuff. In this case I can latch/and or lock the right side, and the left side is secured from the outside by the removable A/C box/closet.

Here's a few links to get your ideas narrowed down a little.

Last, have you talked to these folks in Colorado? They sell the brand that I bought, but made in the Texas plant, one of the few family owned manufacturers left, and even with a few hiccups on my custom build, I still think it was a lot of trailer for the money, and I'd to it again. ~ $ 4,600 delivered before my build. Price included windows, RV door, and e-track, extra vent, 4 stab jacks, and single step at RV door, mine was ordered through a local dealer and built in the Georgia plant. This dealer is an easy day and 1/2 from you, what's buying a trailer without a little adventure to go along with it?

Edit: sharp eyed readers, I ordered the Expedition model, nicer exterior features, then had them delete the 4" drop axles, and install the standard leaf spring axles from the cheaper Explorer model to get better ground clearance. They had a hard time understanding my logic on that one, but they did it!

Just an FYI on the Colorado/Cargo Craft trailers. I was looking at them but had to pass when I found I couldn't park it in my yard and it wouldn't fit may garage. They are made in the Cargo Craft factory in Texas and I got a factory quote from a dealer in Louisiana that was quite a bit less. They don't stock them and I'm sure that's why it was less there than CO.
