New Guy in Phx wanting to see a completed build

Converting Cargo Trailers into TTTs

New Guy in Phx wanting to see a completed build

Postby Penske 50 » Mon Apr 17, 2017 6:39 pm

I live on west side of Phx and want a converted cargo trailer to escape the summers here.

The trailer dealers here just chuckle when I mention a conversion.

So might anyone in the PHX area have a completed conversion that I can come and look at to see something real?

Your choice of beverage will come with me.

PS: I will be using a 99 Jeep Cherokee( with tow package) as a tv. Supposedly the GVWR is 5000 but my mechanic said not to exceed 80 % of that . Correct ?

Thanks in advance.

How big do you want? I have a 7x12x7 all aluminum. About 1500 before conversion and little less than 3500 done. Although I haven't hit a scale with it yet. While I'm single I do have room to sleep 4, but 4 inside on a rainy day will be tight

I'm not close by, but perhaps some pictures might help?

See my build in the link below.

Hope this helps.

Here's a few that where in your area, (I think AZ_Desert_Rat sold his).

While not in your neighborhood, well worth paying attention to: (Gonefishin)

With a '99 Cherokee as the tow rig, you're going to want to stay light weight. Sounds as if you might want a little ground clearance too. I chose leaf spring axles for better ground clearance.
While not a completed build, Cargo Craft in Corsicana, Texas offers these off-road themed trailers, and I'm really taken with the idea. A neat base to start from for anybody needing a small toy hauler camper, especially for a smaller tow rig.
Here's a previous post that has my build using a Cargo Craft made here in Georgia, custom ordered to my specs, and has a video for one of their Texas built off-road trailers, and plenty of discussion perfect for your ideas.

If you like their off road trailer, I'm sure they can hook you up with an experienced and willing dealer close enough to you.

Edit: R&J Trailers in Dallas, TX has (and can get) the Cargo Craft "jeep" style trailer. I'm confident they will speak "our language". You could work out the details, then fly and buy or just get it loaded on the next transport to Phoenix!

So my pm replies are still stuck in the outbox, so here it is. wtcreaux has his trailer for sale:

You need to talk to this guy, I just found this in the for sale area. A little larger than you were thinking, but it's ready to go. $ 5,500 complete near Dallas Forth Worth. (my trailer with windows, accessories and RV door was $ 4,600 before I finished the build). His looks really nice, you'll never build one that nice, for that amount of money. My trailer is 3,000 lbs loaded with gear for what it's worth.
