Roof weight capacity?

How much, and I'm sure it varies, weight can be on the roof of one of our cargo trailers?

I ask because I have to install some vents in mine and I'm trying to figure out how. I also get the added difficulty of the roof being domed. While I'm certain that my fat a** shouldn't be stepping onto the trailer top, perhaps I can span a few of the ribs with plywood and be safe. I really don't want to have to rent scaffold to cut a few holes.

Any advice appreciated.

How long is a piece of string?

Varies with the maker, even individual trailer. If it's a standard unit, call the mfg

I used a ladder cross-wise, sat on it while I did the deed. Used another ladder to climb up. BTW, most extension ladders will separate, giving you 2 ladders.

I used a couple of pieces of plywood, like 2' x 4', placed them on the roof where I wanted to work, used a ladder to climb up on top, and installed my Maxxair fan and 2 skylights. No problem, just be careful.

Whether you use the plywood or a ladder section you'll want to place foam rubber between those and the roof to protect the finish and especially to prevent movement. I've used foam pipe insulation on the ladder rails and foam floor pads on plywood.
