I didn't get a letter... but I am moving off in any case. Started putting all my content for TNTTT on their server (gallery). It is content for this site anyhow, so I figure it all goes together.

I had a lot of content on Thumpertalk.. but I am going to let that go.

The ones I have posted are far flung so, .... may just leave them go until like leaves

I wish I could move my pic's. With over 500 on PB it just isn't going to happen. I dought if I could even find all the threads online I have posted pic's in for information purposes to relink from a new service.

The part that lights my fire is the damage PB has done to many if not all on-line forums. Many decades of information is now only a pic of a company saying all I want is a lot of money for a once free service. I have been a paying member on there for a decade. Now even the level I was paying is not even in the third party hosting level.

So currently I am trying to decide if I want to relearn another hosting site and take the chance of them doing the same if PB succeeds in this rather shakey business gamble. Remember PB is trying to set a trend here. If it succeeds all other hosting services will jump on the band wagon sooner or later.

That why from now on, I am putting the pics in the TNTTT gallery. The content is for this BB anyhow. Will do the same for other blogs where I can.

If you use the chrome browser and right click and "search google for image" on one of the images that comes up with the PB notice the results page comes up with "about 25,270,000,000 results (0.65 seconds) ". That is a whole bunch of pages! Every time one of those pages is viewed PB serves up the file and pays for the bandwidth use.

While I agree that PB has decimated the images posted on an extraordinary number of forums, blogs, etc. we would have the same result if PB had simply gone out of business. PB offered free image storage and free hotlinking when they started out. I too took advantage of them, all the while wondering how they could afford to do that. Sure there is/was some revenue from ads most likely... some ads produce a small flow of income just by displaying when someone opens a PB page; not all need to be clicked on. But it is a small small amount.

When an image stored on a PB server is displayed in a forum or blog message, there is no chance of any income. Displaying an image in a forum or blog post only costs PB bandwidth and bandwidth cost equals real money. If the image was stored on a free PB account the only money PB might see as income is from an ad. I'm guessing that ads being displayed to the PB account holder does not produce enough cash to pay for the used bandwidth when those are sent to forums and blogs.

If instituting that $399 annual fee drives away all those people who were freeloading PB might reduce their costs and actually make money. I doubt many users will spend $399 a year just to keep their forum images active and accessible. If somebody does that is gravy for PB.

They aren’t losing anything by doing this, except the bandwidth leaches.

Any of the other free image hosts could also cease the 3rd party linking at any time. I can think of two best case scenarios. You and I can setup our own website and use it for image storage. That would cost $100-120 a year, depending on how many images we post and how many times they are served up. The other best choice would be for forums and blogs to all have its users upload all the images to the forum or blog server. Some few forums offer that but some systems are more involved than a simple one or two clicks and you're done. Each has a downside. I f I have images stored on my server and stop paying the annual fee the images are gone. If I die and my heirs don't maintain the server the images go away too. The disadvantage of uploading to the forums own server is the massive increase in bandwidth for those images. I believe most forum owners can not support that.

I think they could have differentiated thier users based on usage and charge much less in cases where usage is minmal and non-commercial. While I understand their business need, I think they could have handled this better. That's all.

In any case, I agree any third party could do the same or go out of business. Best to keep the photos on the site where relevant if possible and backup all your photos locally.

Fortunately , TNTTT hosts photos in thier Gallery and it works great.. That is my plan going forward.

BTW, if you have not contributed to TNTTT, you should consider it. It is a worthwhile investment if you use and enjoy this site.

That's what I plan on doing. Now that PB doesn't want the money I have been paying for a decade. I plan on using the gallery here and make the donation to the forum. Just need to relearn how to resize pic's. Its been many years sense I have done that.

I think the Gallery resizes photos beyond a certain size automatically.

I agree Don, I didn't realize tnttt could host images... I would rather support here then photobucket... most of my the forums my other images from photobucket were used for are closed... they all went to facebook groups.. which is ok... but I like this site because you can choose which section to go look at!! I'm going to get the photos I care about off photobucket.... that I don't seem to have since so many were mobile up loads.... or old scanned photos!

I think you click the share button and one of them is a link. Been a while since I played with it so it might have changed.

I also agree that they need to make money, and they are making plenty with all the ads they have on the site. It has crashed my browser several times while trying to load them.

Their new fee structure pure highway robbery, there's nothing that makes any sense about it, other than they are possibly try to drive away regular internet users and only cater to corporate clients that need to host a large amount of images and have them readily accessible.

If I am going to pay to store images I like things like cloud drives. I use Amazon drive currently but when I was using google drive they offered link to image security and all the fun image hosting features. I think photo bucket is just feeling the fact that pure image hosting is at the end of its life span unless it's got some sort of hook like imgur. Photo bucket just never evolved. Even places like snug mug are struggling to evolve as well.

I just installed a package on my web host since I already hosted another site. If I don't want to pay someone else, it made the most sense.
